Outscored their opgonents by 1011 points, 380 to 1369. They averaged 70 points per game against no for the opposing teams. Placed firstin the Holiday Tournament at Hampden. Won A1sen's first Cavalier County championship. Received a sportsmanship award at the Cavalier Coun- ty Tournament. Won the Great Northern Cone ference championship for the second year. Won the District 12-13 championship. Won the Region Ill cham- pionships , Won the State Class C Base ketball championship, The high-light of this most suc- cessful basketball year in Alsen's history was the victory over Taylor in the state Class C championship fi- nals. Paul Glock was picked by the JAMESTOWN SUN sportswriter, Sam Lowe, as the most outstanding player of the state tournament. Three sportswriters choosing top tournament players chose Paul Glock and Kenneth Towers among the first five, eight, and ten tourn- ament players, respectively. Donald Spenst was also included in the group of G 0 A Mr. William Howe of Ottawa, Kan- sas, who had originally been hired to coach the team, was forced to resign due to illness after only nine days of teaching, In his boys' basketball coaching duties he was replaced byfnn Elmer Kroklau of Alsen. Mr. Kreklau, who had graduated from the NDAC some years ago but had never taughtschool, performed the near-phenomenal feat of coaching his first high school boys' basketball team to state championship, Team members were Kenneth Towers, Paul Glock, Donald Spenst, Gilbert Herbel, Dennis Schmiess, Alvin Klein, Rayburn Hcrbel, Mark Kreklau, Dennis Seterdahl, Marvin Po1lestad,and James Furbur. Dennis Seterdahl CTheir marksj Orlin Pankratz 30 SENIOR BIOGRXPHIES Dennis Seterdahl was born Nevember'L 1939. He began school in Alsen and has attended here ever since. While in high school he played basket- ball for three years, took part in dranatics during his junior and senior years, and was a member of the paper staff for one year. He aslo served two years on the annual staff, one of them as associate editor. Paul Glock was born August 19, 1933. He started school in Alsen and has attended all of his school years here. Paul has a distinctive record in that he played six years of high school basketball, two years of it while he was in the qrades. He took part in dramatics for .four years, was on the annual and paper staffs for one year, and served one year as a member of the student council. Kenneth Towers was born at Langdon, December 26, 1938. Ib attended all but two of his school years at Alseng those other two years he spent one year each at Kramer and Billings. Rose played basketball for two years and was a cheerleader for the boys' team for one year. She served one year on the paper and two years on the annual staff. Curtis Johnson was born August 31, 1939. He began school in Alsen and has attend here ever since. Curt was advertising manager on both the paper and annual for one year and played basketball one year. Vary Lou Klein was born on July 29, 1937.9 She attended the Alsen School all the years of her school training. She is married and living in Florida, operating a beach resort. She said they took in a measly five hundred thousand in an average year and complained about taxesa The one and only Orlin Pankratz is now president of the Mosten Steel Company. He has a nice little wife and two chil- dren. when I arrived he was just packing to go on a business trip to England to bid on the Queen Mary for scrap iron. Next I went to a farm near Clyde, North Dakota, to see Mary Lou Klein lnow'Mr ,Eugene Ameslo They have six children, including two sets of twins, While in the neighborhood, I dropped in on Rose Schill, who is married to Willard Lundquisto They are living on a farm near Alsen. They have three lovely children and are very happy together. At Grand Forksllfound Dennis Seterdahl, who is president of the Nash Finch Co. He and his wife had just returned from Fairdale, where they had been visiting her parents. Kenny Towers is playing pro basketball for the Minneapo- lis Lakers. He is married to a New York model, They are living in the Twin Cities in a ten-story apartment. Next was a long jaunt to Wyoming to see Paul Glocko He is employed by the Schafer Seed Co. The freshmen returned this eventful party on October 19, Games were played and lunch was served. The Alsen School Carnival held on Friday, October 21, exceeded last year's carnival both in gross and net receipts, with attendance up from last year. The net profit was S5388.6O, King and Queen of the carnival were the senior candidates, Norman Graber and Mary Lou Klein, Other candidates were James Furbur and Gladys Kaye for the juniors, Mark Kreklau and Jan- ice Alain for the sophomores, and Duane Fast and Donna Sever- son for the freshmen, A The Christmas party was held on December 23. Gifts were exchanged. Candy and peanuts were distributed to all the students in school, compliments of the PTA., No parties were held during the basketball season be- cause time was not available.
