i ,ll g Playshed Alsea students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other community members volunteered their time and skills to build a covered play structure in front of the school. Eugene architects originally estimated the cost of the building at about S120,000, but because of donated time and material, it cost the district about S15,000. Dick Miller was hired as foreman of the project, but he donated well over half of the hundreds of hours he spent. Gisela Green spearheaded the volunteer effort, talking to dozens of businesses about donations and organizing the volunteers. Left: Dick Miller supervises roofing party.
