Q-an Speech 8t Drama The nine members of the speech and drama class put on two plays: ls there a Ghost in the House? at Halloween and the Wizard of Oz in March. Oz, Alsea's first musical in a long time, was the main focus of the class. Students spent four months practicing songs, painting backdrops, memorizing lines, and making props. Grade school students added to the performance by playing munchkins, mushrooms, flowers, and trees. The class spent the last few weeks of school on a debate unit. V Fa Q ' , 1 I L , ,f S' n V . ,r ' fl 'a Photography The photography class was unique in that all five students unabashedly tried to use the darkroom at the same time, according to student Aaron Carpenter. Instructor Jim Mullenix did construct a schedule, but those who adhered to it were left eating dust! said Carpenter. Projects included solarizing, a series of specific assignments, a photo display for the Projects Fair, and posters. The class used a new set of tour 250-watt flood-lights, which relieved the lighting problem in the hallways and on stage. Left: Aaron Carpenter takes photo for assignment. Above: Don Hood reviews music with Rachel Carpenter and Mi- chelle Howey. Right: Students and staff sing Song of Ruth at Spring Program. I Chorus The most memorable aspect of chorus was probably new teacher Don Hood's willingness to work with people who were not actually members of his class. Sizeable groups of students and teachers joined chorus students to sing-in both the Christmas and Spring Programs.

Vince Drago and Teresa Whitehall instructed the classes. Heahh Juniors took the required health class, and felt unanimously that the alcoholism unit was the most interesting and beneficial. Janet Dair, who counsels alcoholics, spoke to the class and organized activities regarding that issue. Alsea EMT's Karlene Colgan and Viola Bedell taught a one week unit in which students obtained first aid cards. Vince Drago taught the health class. Right: Joe Hendrix reads chapter on tobacco.
