Girls' Basketball For the first time in Alsea's history, the girls' varsity basketball team advanced to the State 'B' Tournament in Baker. Their league record was 7- 1, while their overall record was 16-5. They placed second in both league and district, first in Alsea's Christmas tournament, and sixth at state. Several games were high points of the season: the win over Eddyville by 20 points after 19 straight losses to the Eagles, the last game at district against North Clackamas Christian, and the first game at state against Helix. Alsea fans provided strong support all year. A group of fans gave the girls T-shirts, flowers and goodies as they left for state, and an anonymous donor made it possible for the team to stay in Baker for the entire tournament, rather than returning home after the two losses. Joni Hendrix and Adrienne Hill made the State All-Star team, while Joni Hendrix and Gina Hendrix made the district team. Gina Hendrix was voted Most Valuable Player, Maxine Dallmann the Most Inspirational, Melissa Dair the Best Defense, and Jill Olsen the Most Improved. 1' Left: Adrienne Hill shoots a lay-in.
