Football According to head football coach Jim Hagler, the Wolverines had many strengths. We had a lot of depth, the second team was just as good as the first team, he said. It was balanced in its fundamental skills, and these boys never quit - when things were down, they never lost their composure. The record of four wins and five losses didn't indicate the potential we had, because early games were critical, and with our inexperience, we just weren't ready. Hagler concentrated on offense, while assistant coach Mike Wood focused on building a strong defense. Six players received Honorable Mention from the Casco League: Kurt Stone, Steve Jackson, Todd Strom, Mike Sapp, Guy Goodenough, and Bob France. Jackson was recognized as the team's Most Valuable Player, Kurt Stone as the Most lnsiprational, and Chris Bauer as the Most lmproved. Right: Jesse Sapp breaks a tackle. J.V. Basketball The junior varsity team had an impressive winning season with a 14-1 record. They beat two 'A' schools during their season and took a first place trophy in the Alsea Christmas Tournament. Coach Dan Winney believed that the team was strong not only on the five starters, but also on the bench. He also thought they rebounded well and had solid passing. They had a desire to work hard, had class, guts, and were willing to pay the price, said Winney. He added that, with only a little more experience, the team could have competed at the varsity level because their skills were so strong. i ek A2554 Left: Bryan Hendrix shoots over attempted blocked shot.
