HOME ECO OMIC Nancy Westlund's home ec. classes worked on a number of projects this year. They included canning, freezing, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. ECOLOGY Ecology, a new class, was taught by Peter Shoshin. They studied food chains, identifying plants and in- sects, and practical things like planning a garden. The highlight of the year was a four day field trip to an area near Grants Pass to study a different ecological system. In addition to studying the envi- ronment, the class hiked, swam, and panned for gold. Above: Matt Webb, Steve Free, and James Farrington plan the ecology field trip. Beside: Mr. Shoshin listens to suggestions. D. O. The diversified occupations class not only stud- ied career opportunities, they also did projects for and around the school. They put next year's calen- dar together, repainted the sign on Vernon Field, and dug holes for benches that the construction class built. Above: Sam Free works on the calendar. OCIAL TUDIE Modern problems students did research on the environment and criminal justice under the direc- tion of their teacher, Jim Mullenix. Mr. Mullenix also taught the U.S. History class for juniors. The state and local government class sponsored an interesting candidates' night for those running for county commissioner. The freshman geography class studied how physical features affect world cultures. They also did plaster of paris relief maps of Oregon.
