Below: The cast from The Poor of Alsea assemble for a curtain call. Ti s ii, si T PEECI-I AN DRAMA The speech and drama class put on one major production, a melodrama, The Poor of Alsea. They also did Disco-locks and the Three Boogie Bears for the Hootenany. They also spent time learning good speech techniques and doing sever- al speeches. Jim Schmidt taught the class while Beth Dough- man was on leave of absence. Seniors, under the direction of Pam Parady, staged a short comedy, The Cleanest Town in the West, to raise money for their senior trip.

GLI H Judy Juntunen taught Advanced English 11112 and 10th grade English. Spelling, vocabulary, litera- ture, and competencies were emphasized. Competencies and helping students in their weak areas was stressed in Pam Parady's 12th grade Eng- lish class. Patsy Jones' 11th grade English class worked on competencies, other units included litera- ture and the media. Mrs. Jones also taught Kingfish- er which produced another issue of the magazine, and readied another for publication. Jim Schmidt was the 9th grade English teacher. In addition to units like capitalization and punctuation, outlining, the origins of words, the class worked on passing their speech competencies. Above: Rex Hendrix gets caught blowing a bubble when he's supposed to be working on a magazine report in 11th grade English. Beside: English teachers: Judy Juntunen, Jim Schmidt, Patsy Jones, and Pam Parady. SPANI H Spanish was offered again this year when Jean Lamb agreed to teach it. In addition to academic work, at Christmas the class studied Christmas cus- toms in Mexico, made mini-pinatas and metal Christmas ornaments. J OURN ALI Journalism class worked on the annual and the Tin Hat Times. Major events for the year was the annual signing party, a workshop sponsored by American Yearbook, and the advertising campaign to help finance the yearbook. Kelly Pellett served as editor for the last two issues of the THTg she also was chosen outstanding journalism student. Mrs. Jun- tunen was the journalism teacher.
