'Eff .4XLPRE.f'CI-ICD - S' ,la !!l!nIi p, illllllfl' THE FU TIBALL BANQUET N THE nineteenth of December the annual banquet was held in honor of the football and soccer teams. Over two hundred persons were there. The proceedings of the evening started with a beautiful turkey supper. It was our first good meal since we left home. Following the supper hir.-Sell proffered the greetings of the class of 1929 to the teams. Next on the pro ram was Prof. Abbott who spoke on behalf of the faculty. He congratulated the Tioys on their successful season and the splendid sports- manship they had shown. He told them that the faculty was proud of them. Dir. Herman Neweiler, P. M. C. olo star and Prep. '24, spoke next on behalf of the Alumni. He informed the Tioys that the alumni was pleased with the season and wished that Prep. would have some more teams as good as the 1928 team. Our old friend George Dlajerceik spoke next. He gave us to understand that the boys from Nluhlenberg were behind everything that went on at Prep. He congratulated the boys on what he called a brilliant season. Now then we had something to think about! Prof. Gebert stood up to make a speech. Prof, in his usual emphatic tone calmly portrayed for us a mental picture of two giants. One represented our football team and the other our soccer team. Accordin to Prof's account we don't wonder that Perkie and Belle- font turned down our cfiallenges. Dir. Harry Stuhtdreher, coach of Villanova's undefeated team last year, gave the boys some sound advice as to college football. His talk was very interesting and he sure was given a big hand when he was through. He could have spoken for an hour and l doubt if we wouldn't have liked to hear more from him. Lehigh University, in the person of none less than the distinguished coach Mr. Austin Tate, congratulated Prep on its fine showing during the season. Mr. Tate also gave a very interesting talk. Dir. H. Lester Haws delivered the banquet speech. As everyone knows Mr. Haws was one of Dartmouth's stars not so long ago. He gave an excellent talk on sportsmanship and the value of playing the game clean. Dir. Haws amused us with many interesting stories of his college career. A familiar figure in all Prep ventures came to the fore next. It was Mr. Yvm. Harned. He distributed the letters and certificates which the boys had earnec . lmmediately following these presentations our own coach Mr. Yvinfred Slemmer, alias Yvinnie, presented the gold footballs and soccer balls. XVhen the cheering had subsided after Mr. Slemmer's speech the letter men filed out to elect next years captain. Air. Fritz XVavrek was chosen as Ferdinand Burkhardt's successor. The banquet broke up at ten-thirty, and a good time was had by all. Ninety-six
