ll 9 MIEMGD ll DS 419 OPERETTA '0l This year the grade school is presenting an operetta sponsored by Mrs. Donna Dunkel. THE MAGIC BEANSTALK The first act opens on an old village green where Jack is welcomed home from sailing the seas by a group of merry villagers, Ferocious Captain Kidd appears and is joined by a band of pirates, scaring the villagers away. Jack's mother is overcome with joy at Jack's return but bears the unhappy news that they are now penniless because they have been robbed. As an effort to get money Jack's mother bids him sell Juliana, the cow, for as much money as possible. In the second act Jack exchanges Juliana for five magic beans from a magician and his mother is very disappointed. However, this was not such a poor bargain for the next morning an enormous beanstalk has appeared near their home, Jack persuades his mother to let him climb this wonderful beanstalk and returns with a hen that lays golden eggs. He also tells of his experience on the top of the beanstalk at the home of Blunderbuss, the giant. As he has just finished this fan- tastic tale, a terrific noise is heard and Blunderbuss comes down the beanstalk with a huge club and a terrible glint in his eye. He spys Jack and they engage in a terrible duel in which Jack is victorious. Foolemesi, the magician arrives at this point and says he has been cheated because the cow Jack traded is teaching all the other cows to tap dance. Jack gladly buys back Juliana with a golden egg and as they are now prosperous again Jack and his mother live happily forever afterwards. Tony Wolfe There were many Dutch and Chinese girls, pirates and villagers. The ushers did a very good job and we wish to thank everyone who helped in any way. FACULTY The grade school faculty is as follows: Mr. Stoltz, Principal, Seventh-Eighthg Miss Jorden, First Gradeg Mrs. Dunkel, Fifth and Sixth Gradeg Mrs. Reiber, Second and Third Grade, Miss Leighty, Third and Fourth Grade. MISCELLANEOUS We intend to enter the American Legion Contest again this year. Last year we won first place in the boy's contest and second place in the girls, The eighth grade class is publishing a. monthly school paper, Odds and Ends, as a language project.
