H9-use-MEMOIIDS 49 FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA '01 A regular meeting of the Future Farmers of America was held the 3rd Thursday of each month in the Agriculture room. At the first meeting eight stand- ing committees were nominated including all the members to formulate a program of work for the year. Mimeograph booklets of the program were made and a copy given to each F. F. A. member. During the year the chapter bought one registered Duroc and two registered Hampshire gilts. Gene Hershey is keeping one Hampshire gilt with the agreement that when the gilt farrows the chapter gets the first and third choice of the sow pigs when five months old. This Hampshire gilt was purchased from Craig Jr Gilmore. James Wolfe is keeping the Duroc gilt under the same agreement. The chapter purchased the Duroc gilt from Kelsey Bros. George Osman is keeping the other Hampshire bred gilt with the agreement that the chapter gets the first and third choice of the sow pigs and the choice of one boar pig at five months old. The Chapter purchased this bred Hampshire gilt at the fall sale of the Gibson Co. Purebred Hampshire Breeders Assn. held at Princeton Farms. The object of this activity is to get purebred hog projects started and to create a greater interest in purebred swine. The Agriculture II Class built two hog houses for the chapter gilts. Last fall the Chapter bought 300 sexed chicks and sold them at 11 weeks of age for a nice profit. We have sponsored two turkey shoots this year. One at Thanksgiving and the other at Christmas. The Officers of the Chapter have purchased official F. F, A. blue corduroy iackets. The F. F. A. paid for half the cost of these jackets. We have taken several trips to many interesting places during the year. We have attended sales, judging contests, Parliamentary procedure contests, etc. In December ten of the boys and Mr. Davidson. our advisor, attended the National Livestock Exposition in Chicago. The boys saw many sights besides attending the grand exposition. They enjoyed their trip very much. We have also planned a trip to some interesting agriculture place this spring. Later this year the F. F. A. plans to make a yearbook showing all the projects and activities of this organization.
