CARNIVAL KINGS AND QUEENS '01 Left to Right-High School Queen, Rosalie Boydg Grade School Queen, Jo Karen Thompsong High School King, Jerry Pottsg Grade School King, Johnny Shepard. The Carnival Kings and Queens were crowned about 10:00 o'clock the night of the carnival. They were Jerry Potts, Senior, and Rosalie Boyd, Sophomore, for high school and for grade school they were Johnny Shepard and Jo Karen Thompson. The kings were awarded boxes of candy and the queens got perfume for Rosalie and a sachet panda for Jo Karen. ALLENDALE VOCATIONAL STUDENT RANKS HIGH IN PRODUCTION OF CORN CROP '00 Charles E. Winter, a sophomore in the Allendale High School won third highest corn yield with his corn project entered in the Pioneer Hi-Yield Corn Growing Contest limited exclusively to vocational agriculture students with a fine yield of 142.8 bushels per acre. Charles is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Winter who farms 210 acres near Allendale. D. R. Davidson is the vocational agriculture teacher at Allendale. Here is Charles' own story of his corn project: As a part of my farming program, I planted side by side all of the two Pioneer samples which the Pioneer Seed Company sent me next to another hybrid in the same field on our farm. These hybrids were planted on May 18. The soil was in ideal planting condition. The seedbed was prepared as follows: The ground was disked three times before plowing and then plowed to a depth of eight inches, next the ground was disked lengthwise two times and then disked twice crosswise, then the soil was harrowed two times. Following this operation the corn was drilled with a two-row corn planter. The ground had been in permanent pasture since 1922. In 1943 three tons of lime was applied to the acre. Manure was applied to this field every year for the past six to eight years. This year 500 pounds of super-phosphate was applied per acre. At planting time 150 pounds of 2-12-6 was applied to the acre. When the corn was three inches tall it was rolled with a corrugated roller. The corn was cultivated just one time, then laid by. I plan to have a corn project next year along with my other projects and plant some more of Pioneer 313 hybrid corn. It is sure a good quality, high-yielding corn.

E THE MESSAGE 0F CHRISTMAS '04 The student body presented a Christmas pageant entitled The Message of Christmas written by .Ruth E. Simpson. The tableaus depicted the scenes of the nativity. Scripture and Christmas music provided the setting of the tableaus. Ryland Webb read the scriptures and the girls' chorus provided the music. Mary was portrayed by Ruth Reedg Joseph, James Watking angels, Betty Carey, Thelma Carey, Carol Jean Dicus, Irene Mills, Lettie Potts, Mary Ann Prout and Frances Smith, the shepherds, Harold Payne, Larry Potts and Jerry Potts, the three kings, Billy Faith, Bernard McFarland, and Stanley Webbg and the children, David Abel, Judy Colburn, Michael Colburn, Norman Gher, Denny Holsen, Eddie McFarland, Teri Ann Morgan, Bonnie Newsum, Duane Pickering, Nelda Potts, Kenneth Thompson, Sue Turner and Sue Wolfe. Teri Ann Morgan gave the prayer. Solos were sung by Earline Saltsgaver, Ann Madden and June Spray. The members of the chorus were: Lovilah Blood, Wilma Hussey, Margaret Osman, June Spray, Edith Thompson, Patricia Alka, Alicia Beasley, Betty Buchanan, Patsy Buchanan, Lois Clark, June Couch, Helen Reed, Beth Wolfe, Wanda Jackman, Ann Madden, Evelyn Thompson, Carolyn Trimble, and Earline Saltsgaver. The accom- panist was Joan Price and director, Miss Simpson, The production staff included Robert Adams, Richard Breen, Gene Johnson, Donald Hall, Nelson Reiber, Fred Saltsgaver, Tom Holsen, and Jimmy Litherland. The ushers were Rosalie Boyd, Jo Ann Brinkley, Dorothy Goodwin, Lois Keneipp, Diane King, Patty Litherland and Marjorie Price.
