lllllq , 1 I P CoLTrR E P Copier 63 lg 3 mauve of Ciayy fo1d County He received h S 2 firly education 111 the common schools of the county later going to the Edinboro State Noimal School After completing a course in the Normal School he entered Alle vheny College, from which he was graduated in the class of 1868 His college experience 11'1 eluded membership in the Phi Psi Fraternity He tools special interest in the Work of the old Philo Franklin ,Literary Society Wirth five other members of that society he estabhshed what IS known as the Philo Franklin Centenary Qration Prize, which has a fund of six hundred dol lars contributed by its founders The interest on that fund is still used for the original purpose After completing the college course he read law was admitted to the Crawford County Bar in 1871 Ind at once commenced the work of his profession in Armstrong County xx hich he continued in that county until ISSQ at which time he returned to Meaclville, where he has since resided. Four terms as City Solicitor and three terms as a ineniber of the Meadville School Board are incidents of his public service here. 9 ln 1890 he was elected a member of the Board of Trustees of Alle- gheny College, and since 1999 has been secretary of the Board and of the Executive Connnittee.
