SOCCER and 05ClCQYYliYLtOY1 Encourage the Spirit of Fair Play
Soccer, usually considered a boys' game, is one of the
newer sports for the Alco girls. This year fourteen girls
joined the club. They have lots of fun practising,
coached by Miss Mary Virginia Cooper. They learn
good sportsmanship in the competitive games. When
the weather was favorable one saw them on the athletic
field kicking the ball or blocking a pass, and heard the
cries-"Ouch! My shin!" or "Hurrah! a goal!"
Watch the birdie! . . . No this isn't a camera . . . but
the motto of the badminton club. Twice a week four-
teen students received instruction from Miss Mary Vir-
ginia Cooper . . . learned the proper grip of the racket
. . . the method of serving . . . the skill of placing the
"birdie" and at the same time conserved their energy.
During the tournaments held by this group in the gym.
participants applied the different techniques they had
learned at the club meetings. This is a fascinating
sport. Students should avail themselves of the oppor-
tunity to learn to play the game.
