irls' Swim Team Gains Experience Although the girls' swim team did not win many of their meets, they had a competitive spirit. Their coach, Mrs. Barton, worked diligently with them, while expressing the need for good form. Through the help of the weight machine, made by Mr. Escobar, the girls were able to develop needed strength. Their managers, Pam Salinas and Linda Smith. helped the team very much by recording times and taking charge of all the equipment. Top Row: Linda Smith. Debbie Salinas, Suzanne Anderson. Finally, after an overdue amount of time, the girls' sports' program became interscholastic and included the Monterey Bay League. This meant there were work-outs four days a week. instead of two. Also. league rules and competition would be set up for the schools participating. At the end of each season for the respective sport. there was a playoff with the top ranking teams representing their schools in competition for the M BL title. This caused many changes that resulted for the best. For the young ladies. it meant more and better competition and, also, a chance to be recognized for their skills and efforts. For the coaches. it meant more organization in their teams' games. The Monterey Bay League has benifited the Alisal girls' sports program and has greatly aided the promotion of girls' sports.
