Varsity ridders Finish Third in MBL Alisal High's varsity Football team made a strong showing on this year's grid-iron scene, sporting a 4-3-1 over-all and 3-3 league won-loss record. The Trojans coached by Coach Filice and Gary Mortensen, finished third in the South-Monterey Bay League, following Seaside isecondi and Monterey ifirsti. The Monterey Toreadors proved to be the Trojans' toughest opponent in the league matchups, Alisal falling far short 48-7. Other season highlights were the 22-21 edging over cross- town rival Salinas High. Against the Cowboys, tail-back AI Romig was the workhorse for the ground game, including a 70 yard touchdown sprint along the sidelines. Aiisal completed the '73 season with a 40-14 win over Tennyson High of Hayward, coached by former Alisal coach, Milt Pickford. Alisal scoring was by David Dew, Al Romig, Danny Ross, and a Ross to Ritchie pass to finalize the scoring. Premier Quarterback Danny Ross was chosen as the Gold Helmet Award winner as the outstanding player.
