I - The l97l Varsity Baseball Team The varsity and junior varsity baseball teams had strong seasons this year as returning lettermen and excellent come-throughs for the junior varsity team formed a hard nucleus of players for our two baseball squads. Practice was off to a slow start as many players were still involved in a longer-than-usual basketball season, but never the less Coaches Filice and Napoli molded teams, which were solid yet flexible, in preparation for the pre-season contests. Mcmst of the regular starters were ready, though, for the pre-season exhibition games. The nucleus of the varsity consisted of returning lettermen Johnny Burnes, jeff Atkins, Mike Kemp, and Mike Pusley and former junior varsity squad members Jeff Hollis, The 1971 -lunior V arsi Mike Banda, Freddie Osborn, and Gabriel Blanco. With this type of manpower, Hollister, the season's opener, had little choice but to bow before the might of the team, 5-3. On the junior varsity team, lack of experience was the pressing problem. But with only two or three players returning from the squad last year, the Napoli-coached team was able to win their first game of the season, which was Hollister. They then fought to a tie with North High before dropping a game at the hands of Palma, 6-2. Next year, Alisal should see a team that will have had all the experience needed to make a strong showing in the Moriterey' Bay League. ty Baseball Team. 5 i

Seniors dressed in what they wore fourteen years ago and activities for the Big Babies were held accordingly. 'lihere were tricycle raees for the little speed demons, hula-hoop contests for the swingers in the group,jump rope races for the more atlileticly inclined, and four square competition was stiff because the hest hall houncers were yet to he discovered.
