wo fuer STUDENTS COMBINE EFFORTS TO PRODUCE MONTHLY TROJAN TRIBUNE The TROEI.-KN TRIBUNE was a monthly publication written. edited, and released by the journalism classes of :Xlisal High School. journalism students learned the techniques of writing and the general mechanics of newspaper production. They are also taught that the Trojan Tribune is a business enterprise as well as a learningexperience. Alternating work committees gathered news and composed articles, they planned layout sheets. Copyreading committees were taught to be mindful of seeking out and correcting errors which were not in harmony with good standard language usage. The organization consisted of co-editors, associate editors, business manager, advertising manager, circulation manager, and advisor. The Trojan Tribune has been awarded two national second place awards by Columbia University Scholastic Press Association of New York and one international second place award by Quill and Scroll, an lnternational society for Young American ournalists. PHILIPPI O-AMERICAN KARATEJUDO TEAM LEARNS FU DAME TALS OF THE ART OF SELF DEFENSEg SURFER CLUB E JOYS THE PORT or MASTERI G THE WAVES l For the year '70-'71, the officers for the Karate- Judo club were Corbie Morales, President, Roy Kubic, Vic:-President, and Wade Gowin, Secretary-Treasurer. The advisors for the club were Mr. lfarp, Mr. Hetriek, and Mr. Moore. The purpose of this team was to span the bridge of friendship between the Asiatics and American. This team has represented the school for three years of high esteem of dedication in preserving the art-not only for self-defense but discipline. The officers of '70-'71 for the Surfers' Club were as follows: jay jefferson, President, Mike Gorley, Vice President: Gerea Kelly, Secretary: and Kathy Pettigrew, Treasurer. The advisor for the Surfers' Club was Mr. Deaver. The Surfers, Club was one of the new clubs formed for the year '70 to '71, The main interests of the club were to promote beach safety, cleanliness. and obeying laws of beach behavior. The spring was the time of the year in which the members of the Surfers' Club went to the beach for some active lessons.
