MO TEREY COUNTY In contrast to the spectacular bay, the Salinas Valley, since the first settelments of the Spanish, has developed into one of the world's leading agriculture areas. Its pastures and developed farmlands, combined with its seacapes, have created a county worthy of praise . . . the same expressed by its founders 200 years ago. Old Monterey Bicentenniel. 1770-1970. Two hundred years of prosperity and progress. Starting with a simple mission chapel, Monterey has grown to the prosperous county that it now is. .L , .V As! i , The Monterey County Bi-Centenniel Medallion. Picturing the five people most significant people in the formation of Monterey, the Medallion simply says 200th ANNIVERSARY. These two things are enough to tell the story of Father Junipero Serra and his followers. ZOO YEARS FUR This is Monterey County. The white waves crashing against the picturesque coastline create a most spectacular sight. Either a rugged, sharp, and rocky coastline or a gently, sloping, sandy beach are the two types of coastline that will greet a person visiting the bay.

Gary Horsley 9 T This year, the yearbook staff is proud to dedicate the Trojan '70 to lVlr. Gary Horsley, music director at Alisal High School. lVlr. Horsley first came to Alisal High School in 1965 when school first opened. His most noted accomplishment since his arrival here has been the almost unbelievable success of our marching band. Under his direction, the band has taken numerous first places in a wide variety of parades. A record of fourteen first places out of eighteen parades is what has been accomplished chiefly through the efforts of lVlr. Horsley's dedication, energy, and time. Competition in some of the toughest parades available, such as the Western R Band Review and the attainment of Sweepstakes Honors at San lVlateo are the goals for which lVlr. Horsley has primed his band. lVlr. Horsley has gone to great lengths to fulfill the old saying Practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more. He has done this whenever possible, and under his guiding leadership, he has molded a marching band which is second to none. For your efforts, lVlr. Horsley, we have tried to honor you as you have honored us so many times in the past. Trying to show our gratitude for you, we dedicate this publication to you. lVlr. Horsley, we salute you.
