Marching Band places second The 1980-1981 Marching Lions had a successful year. The band went to the Lake Havasu London Bridge Day March- ing Contest and came in second place, losing only to Chapparal High School of Las Vegas, Nevada. The Lions also had victories at home, sending three mem- bers to regional band and having many people rank highly at solo and ensemble competition. During the concert season, the band studied the concepts of modern and classical music. They also learned about the lives of the composers. Aside from the musical aspect, the band had many activities which included the Rookie Slave Sale and Initiation Parties, Vandermeade Assembly, and the Awards Banquet. SAXOPHONES-FRONT ROW: B. Chorus sings in Christmas Concert Beginning girls chorus was a regular class that usually does not perform. During the year, the class was allowed to participate in the Christmas Concert on December 18, and other concerts. Since the girls did not have any uni- forms, they all just wore dresses and tried to match. The beginning girls chorus was an all girls choir. The class consisted of fifteen freshman girls and three sophomore girls. This was a learning class. The stu- dents learned how to sight read and note read.
