MRS. MILDRED CROSSWHITE Girls' Vice-Principal MR. THOMAS WILLHITE Boys' Vice-Principal This must have been the biggest event of Bos life. He remembered after it was all over how he had been waiting backstage for his turn to speak. He was terribly awed and shaking pretty hard when Mr. Gilbert L. Strother introduced him to a friendly and sympathetic pair of official locking adults, apparently very important also to Alhams bra High School. They were Mrs Mildred Crosswhite, Girls' Vice-Principal, and Mr. Thomas Willhite, the new Boys' Vice-Princi- pall Mrs. Crosswhite is in charge of the girls activities and adviser to the Girls' League board. He guessed he wouldnt have much of an occasion to see her again. Mr. Willhite is adviser to the commission and the Boys' Federation. He jokingly said, f'Bo, l hope you come to see me but that l dont have to come and see youff They both promised tc help him out now by introduce ing him to the students. He realized that this was why these people were here, to be friendly and understanding, to help him and the other students with their problems, and to enforce the rules Which make school life easier and more fun for all the students at Alhambra High School, i f 21

Boabdil was still awed by the big man Whom he had met at the airport-the man everyone looked up to. He now found out that this man Was the head of Cousin Ioe Moor's high school. So that is what the Word principal had meant. The big moment had arrived when Boab- dil was to be introduced to the Whole stu- dent body on a grand stage in front of a huge assembly. Why, there were more people here looking at that stage than there were at the arena to Watch the bull fights. He was plenty scared peering through the curtain at all those strange faces. Still, he was more than a little pleased by the pretty girls in the short MR. GILBERT STROTHER skirts Waving yellow paper who looked as though they were challenging an imagi- nary bull. He Was amused and highly en- tertained by the boys and girls leaping into the air, making frantic gestures and shouting-yes it was HIS name. Let's give fifteen for Boabdil lose cle Villanuevelu But something was wrong. The Whole assembly was yelling back, What's that name? The students on the stage stopped jumping up and down and stood thinking bewilderedly. Finally one of them dashed over to the microphone and triumphantly shouted, We'll just make it fifteen for Bo! Everyone of the enthusiastic spectators was yelling his name, or at least part of his name, back at himl 14 mini tration Koa6diL may we introduce- Principal of Alhambra High School

'--ui sa, ,W COUNSELORS M. Iames Kemp Miss Ruth Turbull Mr. Leland Mills, Miss Kathleen Strickland. Miss Leila Liesveld. CounAelorA offer friendly advice. When all the introductions were over Bo and the counselors got to work Bo was soon to find out that our counselors ploy a very important part in the life and educa- tion of the students lt is their Job to help a student in his choice of subtects They give aptitude tests which show the fields in which you have the most natural ability, and subyects can then be planned accord- ingly The counselors keep records of all the students and see that each person is meeting his reauirements One of their out- standing duties is to estimate the size and numbers of classes which are needed every semesterg and with over two thousand stu- dents to account for, it is amazing how they plan the classes with the accuracy that they do. Certainly the ease with which the school operates is, in part, due to the counselors' office. After a lot of thought, Bo and his coun- selor came up with a program. Bo was to study chemistry, English, gym, co-ed cook- ing, and geometryl And boy-the things Bo did in the chem class . . . The Cluld Wei are Uffice aAAiA tA you.
