Supervisor May, 1960 E. A. SCHEMEL. Treasurer To the Class of 1960, A, H, S.: It was only yesterday that I looked out my office window that bright September morning and saw you on your way to kindergarteng and I noted a hint of a tear as Mom hurried out after hasty and covert exchanges with your new mentor. And it was just this morning that I realized with a shock that 13 years had passed in a day -- that those feet which hesitantly led to our door yesterday were now lagging in their exit. We who worked with you in those 13 years are both happy and sad. Happy for all our joint successes, sad for all the things we might have done. we were indeed a severe taskmaster at times. But a man's reach SHOULD exceed his grasp so we should not now waste time in regret for what we missed. Then, too, there was no doubt someone along that journey who kindled something within your mind and personality that will not be quenched -- you may notknow it yet. They may have been friend, parent, teacher -- and when you realize it they may be far away. What then? Simple answer: do as much for another who is struggling through that 13-year day. The milestones ahead will slip by at an always greater tempo in an increasingly complex world. But the mystic chords of memory extend through eternityg and that is why we shall always remember you. Sincerely, . O, B, Laing Superintendent 7
