There were one hundred and thirty-two strange faces
timidly entering A. H. S. in the fall of 1953, the new Fresh-
man Class. When we organized, we chose as our officers:
President, Sid Smith, Vice-President, John Teagueg Sec-
retary, Dianne Bitnerg and Treasurer, Jo Ann Flecker.
Our sponsors were Mr. Buck, Mr. Frazier, and Mr.
Buhler. To raise money we sold magazines. For enjoy-
ment, we had a Christmas party at Kanteen and a picnic
at Shadyside Park with RAIN and squirt guns to close the
year.
The next year, as Sophomores, we considered ourselves
upper classmen, especially when we received our navy blue
and white class sweaters which gave us some individuality.
Our activities for that year were centered around selling
Christmas cards and stationery. After receiving the pro-
ceeds from our projects, we celebrated at the Kanteen with
a pitch-in supper and talent show. To conclude our social events, we held our
class picnic in Matter Park. Gur elected leaders for the year were: President,
Gary Vestalg Vice-President, Konnie Schrothg Secretary, Sally Walkerg and
Treasurer, Peggy Beck. Our sponsors were Mr. Ballinger, Miss French, and
Mrs. McVicker.
As Juniors, we wanted to be different. Soon after we received our rings, tape
and chains had to be added to make many of them fit. Our money making projects
for the 'year included scrap-drives Qremember the accident? ?l and the selling of
Christmas trees. To be unlike any previous junior class, we voted to go to
Salamonie State Forest Reserve for our annual picnic. Upon arrival, we ran over
acres and acres of hills and then sat resting in the SUN the remainder of the day.
At Commencement that evening, many juniors looked embarrassed and felt quite
uncomfortable. We again elected Sid Smith for our President. His helpers were
Vice-President, Naomi Goldeng Secretary, Jean Ann Bowersg and Treasurer,
Letty Cotterman. Our sponsors were Mr. Ballinger, Miss French, and Mr.
Thompson.
To conclude our stay at A. I-I. S. we elected Danny Gaither, Presidentg Jane
Allebaugh, Vice-Presidentg Nancy Metcalf, Secretaryg and Letty Cotterman,
Treasurer. Our senior sponsors were M. Ballinger, Miss French, and Mrs.
Loy. The highli hts of our Senior activities were three dances: The Homecoming
Dance, in whiclgx our own Senior, Jo Ann Flecker, was chosen queen, the Football
Dance featured a very special style show by some of the senior boysg and our
Christmas Dance, which was very appropriately named the Mistletoe Maffick. Be-
sides receiving proceeds from dances, we had the concessions at football and
basketball home games, sold tickets for a skating party, and sponsored movies for
a week at the Town Theatre.
The last special event of our senior year is our class trip to Washington, D. C.
which will be Moments to Remember for us. Then the day of all days will finally
arrive. We will walk down the aisle in our navy blue and white caps and gowns to
receive our long awaited diplomas. Now we realize that this is to be the end of our
high school career, but the COMMENCEMENT of a new life.
