Socmtcc The Socratic Club, the Alexandria branch of the F uture Teachers of America, was organized in 1950. Many purposes are set forth for the F. T. A. Among them are: to learn about the opportunities of teaching, to cultivate good qualities essential in a good teacher, to speed development of student leadership, and to do actual teaching. This year our club conducted exchange meetings with other F. T. A. Clubs in nearby towns. We held a banquet, as well as practice teaching; to gain V. T. A. points. 'Jfatiott C Society The main purpose for the establishment of the National Thespian Society was to promote interest and appreciation in Dramatic Arts among high school students. Thespians take an active part in the class play, one act play, and declamation. This year the Thespians sponsored the Homecoming Dance. The Thespian Society is under the leadership of Beah Ettesvold, president. Other officers include Dan Ness, vice president; Pauline Alberg, secretary; Kay Sheridan, treasurer; and Helen Krassas, scribe. Mrs. Schwanke and Mr. Brown are faculty advisors. ?citufie cc4t te4 P’uture Business Leaders Future Business Leaders was organized for members of the training program. During the year we have held an Employer’s dinner, regional meetings, parents night, and roller skating parties. We also have had many guest speakers and sent representatives to state conventions. The purpose of our club is to give stu- dents educational, social, and recreational opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have. The officers of our club are Beah Ettesvold, president; Chuck Olson, vice president; Marlys Johnson, secretary; Janice Jensen, treasurer; Kay Sheridan, reporter. The advisor of our club is Mr. Maack. Among our activities are making favors for hospitals, sending a gift chest overseas, assisting the Senior Red Cross Fund Drive, and helping with the Blood Bank. We also inform the community of Red Cross activities. Meetings are held once a month and occasionally on Tuesday noons. Officers of Junior Red Cross are Kay Siemssen, president; Catherine Lange, vice president; Janet Torrey, secretary; Dorothy Sarvie, treasurer. Our advisor is Miss Kiger. The Alhi Times is published every three weeks, giving the reporters and editors each a week in which to work. The Alhi Times is a member of the National Scholastic Press Asso- ciation. Each year members of the Alhi Time’s staff are sent to the Minnesota Scholastic Press Association Convention, held at the Uni- versity of Minnesota.
