He feels that w th1 reason, students should have chances to learn through dO1DE As an example,
he encoura,es extra currlcular act1v1t1es 4aybe most people don't realize nt, but the number of ex
tra currlcular act1v1t es ci P166 by thms school 15 comparable to tkose of schools Ultr a much larger
prwrc ,al has made sslble for the puplls 1n tr1S school to have except onal optortunltles for

The Alexander Central School has
prover successful because the students
know that they are under competant

and llrs Weeks, we presented two plays, 'Sleeping Beauty," and 'Ask Mr Bear," astounding own' T V aud-
iences with om' great dramatic ability
Gerald Carter, from Wyoming, was the only 'new face' to Join us in our second studio production
which was directed by lisa Judge and llrs Waite This year, llrs Waite took us on an excursion through
her sugar bush, we were amazed at the procedure of raking maple syrup
Upon our arrival in our third year of television experience, we found that our two new mnagers
were Irs lay Ford and Miss Laraqy We 'troupers' also learned that we had another new actor, Colin
Koester from Batavia We displayed our dramatic talent this year in the production of a play, "Snow-
white and the Seven Dwarfs,' which was a smshing success
Our fourth year found us under the able direction of llrs lertie Ford and llrs Wagner We welcomed
four new members to our casts Lois Bowen from Linden, Lou Ann Garlgen from Webster's Crossing, Thomas
Lake from Buffalo, and Alice Lincoln who had skipped her third production to join us This year, we
again produced that popular play, 'Snowwhite and the Seven Dwarfs l'
The following year, our script called for five more supporting players 'Ihey were: Carol Burch
from East Bethary, Carl Stockschlaeder from Darien, and Richard Foster, Joanne Stvder, and Gerald
Wolff from Batavia This year, prompted by Iliss Argana and Miss I-hstings, we presented a Christmas
play, dieplayixg both our acting and our singing ability
'I'hree more arrivals Joined us during our sixth year in show business They were Joyce Reed,
Raymond Spring, and Frances Welker from Attica llrs Fritts and Urs Dart were our production managers
this year and we enjoyed mamr activities We wrote and presented a play entitled 'School Days," and
visited the luseum of Natural History, the Museum of Science, and the Zoo in Buffalo
The only actor of our present troupe to join us in our seventh year was Richard Gentnsr irom
Batavia Mrs Hillman and Miss Kinney were our major producers, although we began rehearsing with sev
eral specialized directors this year Our company of future actors and actresses spent an interesting
day visitirg the Warsaw Knitting Hill, Jail, and Park during our seventh year
Finally we reached our eighth and last year of rehearsals for matinee programs Four of our pre-
sent cast joined us this year Margaret Biggins from Attica, Ann Quinn from Batavia, Lester Schoenthal
from Medina, and Beverly Townsend fro Albion We rewrote and presented Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer
Night's Dream," and published an issue of a newspaper called 'The Shamrock " 'lhe climax was of course
our comencement, where we proudly received our diplomas, entitling us to four years of advanced eve-
ning performances
We excitedly began rehearsal for our first evening program on a bright September day in 1950
President, Lester Schoenthal, Secretary, Beverly Trifthauser, Treasurer, Lucy Buckenmeyer, and
directors, Miss Kelly and Mr Feltham This year we 'Fresh' entertained the Seniors with a tradition-
al skating party at Silver Lake, and we also held a very successful round and square dance
In our tenth year, as 'seasoned troupers,' we elected the following officers John Rider as
President, Carole Hodge as Vice President, Lucy Buckenmeyer as Secretary, and Sara Lewis as Treasurer,
and llrs Davis and llr Collins as co-producers We presented three one-act plays, sponsored a round
and square dance and encouraged Christnns spirit by decorating a huge tree in the main hall of the
A C S. studio We also entertained the senior actors with another skating party
During our eleventh year in television, we welcomed three new members to our ever-increasing com-
paw Susan Crater from Warsaw, Ronald Fancher from Amherst, and Helen Lembcke from Batavia We chose
Mr Baran and Mrs Austin to be our producers and elected John Rider, President, Lester Schoenthal,
Vice President, Beverly Trifthauser, Secretary, and Treasurer, Gerald Carter We were as 'busy as
bees' with our newspaper, round and square dance, Junior Prom, Christmas card sale, and supper-each
to obtain money for our long awaited trip to N Y C Of course, we each had our shim, new class rings
to proudly display and exchange
Seniors What a breaghtakiryg word! This is what we had looked forward to since that very first
day we ventured forth into the T V world This year two dranntic artists, llary Dennis and Lillian
Russell, transferred from studios in Rochester and Tucson, Arizona to join our ranks Our most vital
producers and prompters were chosem President, John Riderg Vice President,Roger T1-ifthauser,Treasurer,
Gerald Carter, Secretary, Beverly Trifthauser, and Producers, llrs Austin and Mr Demshaw We started
the year off with a bang by holding our annual round and square dance and presenting a rollicking
three act play entitled 'The Show lust Go On ' Ihring the year, we mde a tremendous success of our
mgazine sale We also sponsored a supper, several movies, and a Senior Ball Although considerable
complaining was done, we all agree that we had fun publishing this yearbook, and our long-awaited N Y
trip more than fulfilled our expectations Of course, nothing will compare with our graduation, after
which some of us will go on to other television studios for higher education and some will settle down
with permanent roles

As Juniors, students begin to realize that thelr high
school education will soon end, and that they must saious-
ly consider the1r future plans
This realization was intensefled and dlrected by their
outstandlng advisors, Mr Baran and Miss Sullivan
After electing class officers, the Juniors plunged into
their activlties with an enthusiasm that accounts for
their highly successful year
Their skating party, the only one held this fall, was
immediately followed by one of the best attended and most
enjoyable square dances of the season With an eye to fa.
nance, they took up the sale of Q'lI'lBtm3S cards, and many
housewife will recollect our well bundled and rosy cheeked
been purchased and were seen proudly displayed on the f1n-

Not in the least exhausted the Junlor Class is moving
forward to complete the years program which will include
another skating party, a diaru-, and that mjor event, the

As always, the members of the Freshman Class beg1n the school
year confused and bewildered, but under the direction of their
class advisors, Mrs. Lloyd and Hr. Kaminski, quickly become
oriented.
Later in the year, the class intends to sell Alexander
Central School emblems to students and w1ll appreciate a large
turn out at the freshman dance. The members are hoping that
their skating party will also be a successful venture. They voted
on the amount of the dues, which they will pay during this year,
and those dues, along with the money earned from their activities
will finance their S8U1OP trip. This trip is a long awaited date,
and each year the entire class works and plans with that final goal
in mind.

When Sept lst rolled around, the A C S
pigskin paraders reported at achool to be
checked overby the doctor, thus the S3
season was underway Although our season
ended with an obvious defeat in the win cdhmm
we managed to crack a school mark by playing
a full eight game season Our first season
in the fall of 'LB found us slaying but lg
games, so we have made progress in the game
played department
Past season tabulation showed Alexander
gridders were able to reach payoff dirt in all
but one game this season The heart breaker
was our Arcade game when victory was breath
ing down our necks The score was 13 12 for
Alexander, with 20 seconds to go Then a
quick Arcade T D at that time erased our
near yet so far v1ctory
Let's remember the 'S3 season from the
more favorable aspects such as our first
quarter of the Lyndonville game and holding
powerful Victor to the close margin of 25-15.
Our prospects for next season show a
large group of our veterans graduating, so
there shoes will have to be filled with new
material coming up from the ranks. Let's vow
now that our 'Sh aggression will be the big-
gest and best yet to go down in the laurels
of A.C.S. athletics.

Hr Kaminske in his second year as
coach at Alexander, turned out a fairly good
soccer team The percentage wasn't good but
the games were all very close and a battle to
the finish The soccer team won two games,
lost five and tied one They were tied for
first place in the "B" league but lost a
thrilling playoff game to Holley by the score
of 2 to 14

Having lost last year's leading scorers
and also with them the helght which gave us
board strength, we looked forward with but
little encouragement for th1s season's play.
Wur team played hard, good basketball, but
nevertheless had to be satisfied with a won

Dick Gentner led the SCOFIHE with a total of

On Nov. lst H4 candidates tried out for
the 53-511 Jay Vee basketball squad in an at-
taupt to get experience and knowledge for mt-
ure high school basketball days. Accordingto
past season statistics, the average Jay Vee
contests ended with 118 points for the appon-
ent while the Alexander basketeers racked up
112. It is time that the reverse of this
standing would have a much better appearance
in the win-lost column. Our record was a lO-
S with S wins.
Next year will find most of the Jay Vee
regulars of this year taking their proper
position on the varsity roster. That means
more new material will have to be uncovered
to fill the shoes of our boys that will move
up the ladder.
As we see the final curtain drops on the
season lets say that the team was only as
successhxl as each and every member involved
made it. We did the best job that we could
in each and every game regardless of the
final scores.

Although considerable complaimng was done by the members of the staff about the many pitfalls and
anxiet1es concerning the publishing of a yearbook, all can agree that 'it was worth it" now that they
see this book in print
This year, the yearbook staff decided on three major changes We have a new business section, using
patrons instead of advertisements We feel that the absence of an advert1sement section adds to the
neatness and attractiveness of the book Another addition is the scholastic section The purpose is
to retain school memories and to acquaint the students with the school The third addition is the
alumni section These snapshots will help us to keep in mind the past graduates of A C S

The plot of the play lnvolved tee d1fficulties of some teen-agers who were attempting to present
their own stage production Joanna Jack and Ronald Fancher were constantlv DI'3Ct1C1I'lg the1r love
scenes for the big event, and John Rider went sprawling across the stage from an lmpact received dur
ing rehearsal of the olaf withln the play The audience howled when Dick Gentner made an entrance,
clad in shorts, and mth shaving lather on h1s face Colin Koester was the determined father, bound
that his daughter would not have any chance for acting experience, and Al1ce L1ncoln was the disturb-
ed mother, who was confused as to what to do about the matter Roger Trifthauser, the d1rector of
the local drama group, was d15COLU'3g1Y1g toe teen agers and hlndering the1r progress, having been
'bribed by Colin Larry ooodman was the uncle from Hollywood who arrived just in time to prevent
failure of the project, and at the conclusion ox the play, misunderstandlngs were straightened out
and everyone was pleased at the outcome
The Senlors had a lot of fun whlle dolng t'us plqg and learned much about stage craft meanwhile
The actors were not the only ones who made the plar a success Some g1rls were 1n charge of makeup
and others ac ed as prompters A number of boys
and g1rls set up the scenery, painted it, and
prepared it for the productlon, and another group
was in charge of stage props, and had to rearrange
them between acts Still other members of the
class sold tickets, operated lights, obrained
f'J hlrnlture from a local store, and 1n other ways
contnbuted their efforts to this proJect
Dance Band provided mus1cal selections durlng In-
termissions for the aud1ence's enjoyment
1- .X the one person to whom goes the thanks of the
whole class, for his effort and ass1stance during
+h1s venture, is the d1rector of our play, Ur.

The Leaders' Club is a boys'
club which has been organized this
year by M Dougherty There are
two purposes of this group Th
first is an attempt to lmprove the
physical education program by teach
ing skills to the younger or slower
students of the regular gym classes
The development f qualities f
leadership and sportsmanship 1
brought about by the practical ex
oerience of acting as umpires, ref
erees, scorers, and timers
second purpose is to give students
with exceptional athletic ab11ity a
chance to develop these abilities to
a fuller extent.
Two activities planned for the
coming year, wh1ch Mr. Dougherty and
the boys are looking forward to are:
A gymnastic exhibition in March, and
competltion in the tumbling and gym
nastic areas of the Sectlon V w1nter
sports carnival 1D April. The latter
is similar to playoffs in other
sports, where the boys are rated by
a scoring system in each gymnast1c
feat. We wish you luck, boys!

Was lt worth wh11e'7
las our education worth while? In order
to determlne this, it would be wise tostate
some facts and opinlons on th1s subject
It is a well established fact that a
high school diploma is necessary in order
to go on to h1gher schools of learning
this farming community, only a small percent
of the graduates of H115 school go on to
colleges and various other institutes For
those who don't attend college, almost all
of the jobs-with-a future are not avallable
to men or women who have not attained ahigh
school diploma Aside of these more obvious
m2t8T181 gains of education, another factor
is that w1th a high school education,future
voters will have a more extenslve knowledge
of the world and of their democracy
Some parents may think of the expense
of sending their chlldren to school Many
students also remark about comlng to school
each day and never receiving any wages like
those 'lucky people who work N Robert
Burnette, in an issue of the Amerlcan
Agriculturist, stated that a high school
graduate is able to earn 633,000 more during
his lifetlme than a student who quits school
when he is sixteen years old This puts
an average value of each day spent in high
school at Sill 25 As Mr Burnette says,
WNot bad payl' Dr George Warren of Cornell
wrote on the subject of the need for ed
ucation in his textbook on Farm Management
in 1913 WIn one county the farmers who at-
much as those who had never been beyond
district school Dr Warren also states
that a hlgh school education 1S worth more
than an lnvestment of 36,000 l SZ bonds
Frankl1n was right when he sald that invest-
ment in knowledge pays the best 1nterest
Education 18 quite obviously a social
asset The high school graduate w1ll have
a better knowledge of the political Unlted
States which w1ll be of value not onlv on
"the Tuesday after the second Monday
Wovember,N but also in everydav convers-

Our school has growing pains When we
entered 011001 ln 19142, Alexander boasted
an unprecedented registration of 606 pmpils
As we leave in 19514, we note that our pre
sent registration is 880 students This is
an increase of slightly over 261
Durlng our senior year, we have seen both
the ladies' and mens' room converted for
classroom use Miss Argana's art office
has become a second grade romm A fourth
kindergarten class was added, as was a new
first grade Every available inch of space
is being utilized to accommodate our in
creased enrollment
It's hard to predict what is going to
happen because of this enlarging student
bod As we look around us, our co munity
is expanding in all directions New indus
tries are appearing Meantime our regis
tration is increasing at an increasingrate
At present the problem of over-crowding
is confined to the lower grades, but it is
only a matter of time until the entire
system is affected Some schools have
solved the s1tuat1on by resorting to the
half day session It may be that th,
Alexander senior of the future may be a half
day scholar
It is our earnest hope that this is not
necessary It would indeed prove shamefulit
our present friends would be afforded only
half the fine training and only half the
fine Opportunities that we have received
and enjoyed.
Alexander Tomorrow 9
we could not completely V19W the future un
less we took 1nto account the present curr1culun
of our school
At present we f1nd Alexander rooted to the
tradltlons of the past, offerlnr to those wmo w1sh
it a pure acade lc, college preparatory course
Tb those whose lnterests l1e 1D other dlrectlons
our school w1sely E1VeS credlt for coxrses ln ag
rlculture, bUSlW6SS, stop and home m3P1N, In ad
d1tlOn to these, we are fortunate 1U h3V1Ug a r1ch
and varied extra currlcular program Thls complete
program has made our school llfe happy and suc
cessful
No one can predlct w1t accurac5 what th
future holds 1U regards to a school program How-
ever, as new sc ools r1se amoung us, we can v1ew
the more mo ern trend and make some pT6d1Ct10nS
Alexander of the future w1l1 have no stage 1n
the gym A new seat1ng area w1ll take the place of
he crowds that often f1ll our gym beyond safe
capacity A new audltorlum w1ll rlse o Our
grounds g1V1HF us a place for our many muS1Ca1 and
dramatlc productlons The students of the future
may be able to troop downstalrs to learn water
safety and llfe-sav1ng in a gleamlng SW1mHlUU
pool A new Wlhf to our bulldlnr w1l1 UPOVld0 the
much needed classroom space that w1ll recelve the
1nd1v1dual attent1on due hlm ln comfortable and
Sp8C10uS surroundlnp we may flnd a new SC1PHC9
room complete w1t1 laboratorf space for all Per
hans we mar find a newlv devlsed fleld program for
the teachlng of manv subgects under actual l1fe-
llke COHd1tlOUS
These th1ngs added to our present, CUTT1Culum
would lndeed make the future Alexander student a
more sat1sf1ed and more completely prepared
d1vidual
As fortunate as we have been 1D having
Alexander as our Alma Hater, we would feel selfish
lndeed 1f our pred1ct1ons d1d not 1nclude more for
our fr1ends to come
