Norm Femling had 12 points and Russ Dunne had 11 to lead the Papermakers. Zurfluh of Port was high scorer for the evening with eighteen points. NOVEMBER 22: Rhinelander 56, Nekoosa 50 - Playing a listless game, Nekoosa dropped its second conference game to Rhinelander as the Hodags came out on top by a score of 56 to 30. Rhinelander jumped into an early lead, holding the lead to the end of the game. Russ Dunne led the Papermakers with 12 points and Verage was high for Rhinelander with 17. DECEMBER 2: Nekoosa 45, Mosinee 29 Cnon-confer- encej - Nekoosa High school won its first basketball game of the season by trouncing a weak Mosinee five. 43 to 29. Nekoosa took the lead early in the game and Mosinee was never able to catch up. Femling lead the scoring for Nekoosa with eleven points. Port Edwards 54 Nekoosa 32 Cnon- conferencej - Making 14 baskets out of 27 shots in the first half Port Edwards defeated Nekoosa for the second time this year 54 to 32. The Papermakers played Port on more even terms in the second half but could not make up the deficit. Russ Dunne scored eight points to be high man for Nekoosa. FEBRUARY 3: Tomahawk 45 Nekoosa 42 - - koosa scored 16 points in the third quarter but then did not score until almost midway in the last period as Tomahawk came from behind to win 45 to 42. Russ Dunne scored 11 points the third quarter with a total of twelve for the evening. FEBRUARY 10: Wisconsin Rapids 63 Nekoosa 35- A fighting Nekoosa team was not over-awed by the num- ber two team in the state' and gave the Raiders a terrific battle in the first half. The score was 28 to 20 in favor of Wisconsin Rapids. In the second half the visitors had too much power for the Purple and White, and we went down by a score of 63 to 35. Norm Femling had a total of 17 points for high point honors. FEBRUARY 17: Stevens Point 84, Nekoosa 30 - Stevens Point downed our Nekoosa Papermakers by a score of 84-30, but they did not outfight us, as our boys stayed in there and fought until the final whistle. Nekoosa could not match the height and balanced scor- ing power of the Panthers, but jerry Kitrush played a good game and led Nekoosa in scoring with nine points. FEBRUARY 24: Marshfield 43, Nekoosa Z9 - Ne- koosa dropped the last conference game of the season to Marshfield, 43-29, in a slow game played at Marsh- field. Both teams could not seem to get started and it was a question of ,who missed the most easy shots. Norm Femling had nine points to bring his season's total to 208 points. DON GUSTIN H15 bergbl azded Nekoosa many limes RUSS DLNNE Fast and clever. ln the first game of the regional tournament Stevens Point overcame our Nekoosa Papermakers by a score of 67 to-31. Nekoosa beat Mosinee 41 to 39 in the second game in which they played, thus giving the Papermakers the right to meet Marshfield for the consolation cham- pionship. The superior height of the Marshfield Tigers proved too much in the consolation game, as the Tigers won by a 2 point margin, 51-49. Credit should be given to Coach Rehnstrand for showing and teaching good sportsmanship, in spite of a poor season. He made no alibies, but taught his team to take defeat as well as victory.
