UNBEATEN-UNTIED 1949 CHAMPIONS OF THE LUMBERJACK CONFERENCE . 7 , Football prospects at the opening of practice were not very encouraging. The backfield had lost only one man by graduation, but the line had lost almost all the veterans of last year. To make the picture even more gloomy, the boys who were try- ing out were not too heavy, compared with other years. Howeverg things looked a little brighter with LaVerne David, a W'aukesha letterman, and Hank Allwarden, who returned from Wausau in time for the opening of school. A week before the opening game with Stanley, Adams-Friendship scrimmaged our boys. Although the visitors were as big as our team, they could not match our skill and fighting spirit. ling, 'Rl'5S Dl NNE - 'I'lve 'l'0ml1- FRANK VOTAVA - Ile broke 'down Tu'in.v, Dunne um! lfem- lVu14pafu'5 spirit ufillr bis 35- yurd touthdo wn.
