1.1 The 1973-'74 gymnastic season started promising with Coach Ron- ald Fischer returning to his post for a second year. The team began with high hopes centered around the three returning lettermen, Mark Bunker, Robin Mueller, and Jerome Ober- meier, added to these were three se- niors, five juniors and nine eager sophomores. These hopes were shat- tered first by injuries, especially that of lim Hasler who was out twelve weeks, and second by losing tough meets by only three or four points. The team closed the season with a disappointing four win-five loss record. The gymnasts placed fourth in the Peppermint Invitational, fifth in the City Meet, fourth at State Section- als, and tenth in the State Meet. Outstanding performances were giv- en in the '73-'74 season by junior Mark Bunker on long horse, senior Robin Mueller and sophomore Dan Spinella in floor exercise, senior Jer- ry Obermeier on parallel bars, and junior Jeff Braun on still rings. New uniforms and co-ed practices proved only a start for the 1973-'74 girls' gymnastics team. Opening their season with a win over Pulaski, the team continued turning in fine performances and tallied a final sea- sonal score of 7-5 in the beginning, intermediate, and optional levels. The City Meet disappointed none as the team finished third, and out- standing junior Karen Damske placed sixth in floor exercise compet- ing at the optional level. With only four members of the squad graduat- ing, the outlook for continued suc- cess looks bright.
