l 38 'g Gridders Burn Through Trying Season With a new coach, a record setting halfback, and a spirited bunch of players, the 1973 varsity football team turned in the second best rec- ord in school history: 6-2, losing only to Tech and Pulaski. Taking over the helm as head coach was Mr. Everett Wood, a for- mer star quarterback at Boy's Tech and Ripon College. Senior halfback Bob Pietruszka provided the spark for the team with his 16 touchdowns for a total of 112 points, all of which helped the Wildcats to capture a Third Place in the City. For his out- standing season, Pietruszka was vot- ed Most Valuable Player. Other not- able performances of the 1973 sea- son were given by Dan Sass, Team Captaing Steve Monsees, Most lm- proved Player, and Duane Sandberg, winner of the Iack Kaspian Award. Left without me again! Soccer, that little known European sport that has been played in the shadow of football for so many years, finally received the recogni- tion it deserved this year at Hamilton. This year's team banged in a total of twenty goals on its way to a 6-1-1 record and the Championship of the Blue Division of the City Confer- ence. ln a heartbreaking game against Washington, our guys dropped the City Championship by a score of 1-0. Hamilton showed its dominance of the soccer scene this year by placing five of its team members on the All-Blue Division team. These players were: goalie Jim Wickert, fullback Allen Wichgers, fullback Harry Kosek, halfback Pat Larsen, and the Most Valuable Play- er, forward Zoran Kuzmanovic.
