Girls Ar For the third consecutive year, our 1973 tennis team earned the Number One spot in the City Conference. This year's team compiled a record of 7 wins - O losses and a remark- able individual record of 31 wins - 4 losses, which earned them the dual meet championship of the South Section of the City Conference. From there the team went on to: gain a first in the City Tournament, place second in the State Subsectionals fmissing first by one pointj, and notch third place in the State Sec- tionals ffailing to qualify the entire team by a heart-breaking one pointj. Among the mainstays of this year's team were, Jim Wichert, 1973 MVP and one of the few netmen in the cities history to ever win both first place as a singles and doubles player, and Tom Puls, termed by Varsity Coach Sullivan as one of the most coachable athletes I have ever had. With many of these indi- viduals returning next spring, the 1974 team should continue its domi- nance of the City Conference. The 1973 Girl's Tennis Team, competing interscholastically, out- ranked all other schools in the City Conference by compiling a team rec- ord of 5-1-O, and gaining the top position in the City Tournament. The ifl singles player, Shirley Weir, with an individual record of 11-1 also placed first in City Compe- tition. JoAnn Davis and Sheryl Kropf, the iil doubles team, placed first in City Competition, and com- piled an overall seasonal record of 12-O. Other tournament victories included a third place for the 42. singles player, Jean Schulte, and a fourth place for the 32 doubles team of Pam Green and Laura Strohmeier. e Tops in the Racket 'TW 3 .....,,,...- ...er K vi , S o- Swatting flies has become an outdated art
