Varsity Boys Strive for ictor The varsity boys basketball team had an exciting and winning season. Although basketball is a sport usually left in the shadow of Aledo football, the team proved what could be done this year in an all-out effort season: Consisting of only six players, this close band of team- mates and friends went through an almost flawless year of play. They just barely missed reaching the playoffs. Once the team began winning, there was no stopping the fans. Every home game brought a crowded humm- ing gym that literally exploded with the teams every move. A high point in the season came in a home game against Ferris. When the Ferris team tied the game with seconds to go, Kevin Hinderman brought the ball down the floor and shot from well beyond the free throw line. When the shot went in, the fans burst onto the floor screaming, cheering, and raising players on their shoulders like a scene from a movie. The team rallied to several last minute victories. In a dramatic finish in the last regular season game, the team held onto a tie and then won in overtime against Red Oak. The playoffs hopes soared and fell throughout the season, but the team did, not make it. However, the var- sity team had one of the best seasons in several years and their exciting season provided all the drama and thrills that basketball could possibly offer.
