The freshmen re- mained scoreless in their first two games against Castleberry and Crowley. However, by the third game with Carroll the defense began to move. Running back Ricky Box scored the touchdown in the Car- roll game on a blocked punt and the Bearcats tied the game. In the Hillsboro game Steve Marshall scored on a 34 yard pass from McClin- chey and Lee Walls ran for the two point conversion: however, the freshmen still lost the game. When the Bearcats played Cedar Hill, it was Perry Coleman's night as he scored on a 17 yard pass from McG1inchey. Again the freshmen were defeated. The next Friday night found the Bearcats facing the Lake Worth Bullfrogs, and they came away with their first victory of the season. Box, Robinson, and Marshall scored the three touchdowns with Marshall kicking the extra point. The freshman team was defeated by Midlothian, but Box managed a touchdown on a 26 yard pass from McClinchey. The final game of the season against Alvarado brought a big win for the freshman Bearcats. Box scored the first TD on a 1 yard run and with the game tied, Kevin Whitmire scored on a 5 yard run to win the game. Although the freshmen had a losing record, they gained valuable experience both on and off the field. Season statistics found Ricky Box scoring 4- TDs, Zan McGlinchey threw 4 TD passes Y 2 to Steve Mar- shall, 1 to Box and 1 to Perry Coleman, Kevin Whitmire scored one TD. Jason Robinson and Lee Walls scored 2 point conversions and Steve Marshall kicked an extra point.
