uture armers of merica The local chapter of the Future Farmers of America has traditionally been a very strong and active organiza- tion at Aledo, and this year has been no exception. The officers traveled to New Mexico for a week long meeting to plan the activities for the year in June. In July, they attended the State FFA Convention in Lubbock where they won the National Superior Chapter Award. Despite the new state laws, the FFA members par- ticipated in several livestock shows including the Parker County, the State Fair, the Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio shows. The FFA members have also received many in- dividual and team honors during the year. Tim Soules was elected District Treasurer. Three judging teams - Dairy Products, Poultry, and Dairy Cattle - went to state. At the District Leadership Contest five out of the seven attending placed. Some other activities for the FFA included sponsor- ing a Hunter Safety course, hosting a district meeting, attending the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, and selling fruit, turkeys and sausage in December for their major moneymaking project. Phil Bradford and Jack DeShazo, FFA sponsors., have done an excellent job in directing all of the activities. All the planning began in June when the of- ficers attended a workshop where plans for the entire year were made implementing the year's theme, 'LReach for the Starsf' The monthly meetings began in August with a pro- gressive dinner with everyone dressing as a different star. ln September the new members were invited to the informal initiation with the theme being outerspace. In October the formal initiation was held at Ridglea Coun- try Club. The first meetings had been mostly fun, but in November the meeting took a more serious note as members of S.A.D.D. fStudents Against Drunk Drivingj conducted the meeting. Of course, December brought HA Cindy LaVigne, 3rd VP of Projects, Angie Ray, lst VP of Program, Dahna Clark, President, Phillip Stavens, Beau, Theresa Lohmann, 2nd VP of Encounter, Kathy Jones, 5th VP of Publicity, Judith Sanchez, Social Chairman, Lisa Martin, Historian, Gail Schmidtzinsky, Treasurer, Donya Kuehl, 4-th VP of Recreation, Andrea Turner, Secretary. the annual Christmas party at Cindy LaVigne's home. One of the big events of each year is Daddy's Date Night. This took place at Mr. Catfish in February. March brought FHA week and the election of officers for the next year. The area meeting in Stephenville and the state meeting in Houston took place in April in addi- tion to the Grandmothers' Tea and the Encounter Awards. The last monthly meeting in May was the tradi- tional farewell to seniors. The FHA is sponsored by Mrs. Linda Hailey and Mrs. Ann Reagan who are both very active in the local chapter and area and state activities. Mrs. Reagan retired at the end of this year and her hard work and devotion to FHA will be missed by everyone connected with the organization.
