Highsteppers ' The 1984-85 Highsteppers had a very successful year. The drill team members attended camp at Southern Methodist University in June where they were taught many of the routines that they performed at pep rallies and football games. Then in August the girls began to practice two weeks before the start of school in order to be prepared for their first performance. The Highsteppers is composed of sixteen very talented young ladies. They have received numerous blue ribbons at camps and clinics. Six of the girls - Galena Parenica, Laurie Christian, Patty Neal, Judith Sanchez, Tia Young, and Ellen Palmer - were selected from girls all over the state to perform at the Bluebon- net Bowl in Houston. Also, the entire group was invited to perform at Reunion Arena in December. In addition to the many hours of hard work devoted to perfecting dance routines, the drill team members conducted money raising projects to help pay some of the many expenses involved with being in drill team. This year they held several raffles giving away dinner tickets and a Cabbage Patch doll from Germany. How is it Steph? Stephanie Varuska, Aledo Highstepper, enjoys a sucker during lunch.
