BE RC w Drum Major Deric Weiss It may not look like much, but it,s got a lot of talent hidden in it. It's the 1984-85 Marching Bearcat Band. The marching may look easy, but it took hours of prac- tice to learn the show. The Band started their practicing two weeks before school started. They practiced music from 4 to 6 pm, then they marched from 7 to 9 pm. Along with the start of school came Monday night and morning practices. All of this work just to support the team and school. Out of last year's group came many talented students. In December 1983, we had three of this yearis students make All-Region Band. They were Penny Green, Jamie Deel, and Deric Weiss. In January 1984, we had six students make All-District Band. They were Deede Miller, Jamie Deel, Deric Weiss, Kent McAnally, Penny Green, and Jennifer Marsden. UIL Solos came in April 1984. Four people played and three made First Divi- sions which took them to State, held in Austin. These three were Laurie Walker, Jamie Deel, and Deric Weiss. This year the Band went to UIL Marching Contest at the University of Texas at Arlington. Although the Band got a Third Division., Feature Twirler Kay Haney and Renee Pennington both got a First Division on their twirling solos. This first division will send them to State competition in June. 1 4- Band T PRIDE l M x-- 1 2' F. 'Wim' . On You Bearcats! The hand supports the Bearcats by playing the fight song!
