Educatlon 15 not a tasx, lt 1S a lifelong happlness,
an ennobling lntimacy with great men, an unhurrled ex
cursion into all realms of liveliness and wisdom A hun
dred philosophers await us in the Country of the Mlnd a
hundred poets sing there, a thousand artists carve and
build and paint, statesmen hold quiet discourse on large
affalrs, and saints speak a word for kindness What a
gift it is, this heritage of mankind to men, this Eldora
do opening 1ts gates and bidding us enter and possess!

The Jewell team played a return game and this time we collect

Although these girls did not have a perfect record this season
they showed good teamwork and sportsmansh1p in all the games. In the
early part of the season, the team lost Olsen, a sophomore, due to a
knee injury, but this position was filled by Harms, the only junior
on the team. The five remaining players: Catlin,Pinge1,0rpin,Skou,
and Maury are all seniors and former letter winners.
The county tournament went their way in the first round by a
victory over Ackley, but the girls were nosed out by Owasa in the
semi finals.
The sectional tournament at Hampton also started with a bang and
the team left Dows with the short end of the score. However, in the
semi final round the girls were defeated by the strong Hansell State
Champion Team.

The opposition appears to be tougher than ever this year w1th
Hubbard, who was in the state tournament last fall, being a conten
der Radcliffe and Owasa also are boasting of strong teams Much
of Alden's success will depend on whether or not another pltcher can
be developed to help Homer with the pitching duties
In spite of these odds, Alden is anticipatlng a big season for
this year If the determined expressions on these boys' faces mean
anything, the prospects for the coming season look favorable
Although we lost some first team men last spring we have five
former letter winners back with us agaln These are Homer Lawson,
Harold Knowles, Harold Lawton, Irvin Klein, and Robert Gilmore One
of these fellows, Knowles, was an all county choice for catcher last
summer in the Junior League
