LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT! As the editor of the 1984 Cubette I have learned more that I can express. It wasn’t very easy to take over as senior editor since we started with a little more than $1000 in the hole. However, I feel thankful for that. It taught me to work hard for what I want. I didn’t do all this work alone: lots of people helped me and deserve a pat on the back. First of all, I would like to thank the AHS administration and school board for setting guidelines. They set the Cubette on fire to get enough money to have a yearbook. I would like to thank our advisor, Mr. Hall, for being so patient with us and encouraging us. Mr. Larsen, our school photographer, also deserves a very big pat on the back. He worked with us in a very pleasant manner, even during his summer vacation. It wouldn’t have been possible without him. Thanks to Erik Johnson and Todd Embrock. who weren’t on the staff, but willingly helped. I would also like to thank the rest of the Cubette Staff. Last but not least, I have one person who deserves a very special thanks. That person is Paula Evanson, my assistant editor. Besides myself, Paula worked the hardest and longest on this book. She was always there to help me and encourage me. Thanks so very much, Paula! Steen III The AHS Band had a very successful year. They spent many hot days practicing for their halftime show and the parades that they would attend. The work and sweat was all made worthwhile when they got fourth place at the USD Dakota Days Parade and a third place trophy at the Tulip Festival in Orange City, Iowa. During the year the students attended the Augustana Band Festival, tried out for All-State Band, and took many ensembles and solos to contest in Vermillion. The jazz band also performed well this year. They attended a jazz contest and had their annual concert together with the swing choir. To end the year, the band used their money they earned selling pizzas to take a trip. They journeyed to Omaha, and, after enjoying themselves all day, performed at an Omaha Royals game.
