FFA IS ON THE GROW Again this year, the members of the FFA sold fruit to raise money. The money was used to conduct many chapter activities. Some of their activities were: National FFA Convention, State FFA Convention, State FFA Leadership Camp, Parent-Member Banquet, and to do some repair work on the Union County Fair Grounds. Erik Johnson, President, did an outstanding job of leading our chapter to a very successful year. The chapter placed very well in all the state activities that it participated in. All these activities were led by the local officers and their advisor, Mr. Quick. Above - FFA Members (Bottom L-R) K. Johnson, C. Nygard, S. Peck, B. Johnson, C. Treiber, C. Johnson, T. PEP CLUB ADDS LETTERING SYSTEM A new aspect was added to the Pep Club this year. It was made possible to letter and earn a pin at the end of the year by earning enough points. Each sporting event was worth a certain number of points toward a member’s pin is they attended. This helped to bring attendance up, and the spectators had an added incentive to cheer the team on to victory. The cheerleaders really appreciated having such an enthusiastic crowd to work with. Mrs. Johannsen guided them throughout the year by serving as the Pep Club’s advisor. Above - Student Librarian M. B. Newberg LIBRARIAN ASSISTS STUDENTS This year there was only one student librarian, Mary Beth Newberg, to help Mrs. McKellips locate books and magazines for students during their study halls. During the year Mary Beth received one on one training from Mr. McKellips, which included traveling to Vermillion to tour the USD Library. FHA LOOKS INTO THE FUTURE Alcester’s FHA Chapter had a very exciting year, while participating in various things. This year the FHA promoted the theme “Families and Futures.” Two of the biggest events FHA held were Daddy Date Night and the Mother-Daughter Banquet. They both were a big success. Many of the members went to the regional meeting and did very well. Fourteen members from Alcester went on to the state meeting. Another highlight of this year was FHA week.
