May 23 saw the senior class depart from the Alcester school system as the newest alumni. The motto they chose was “I cannot change yesterday, I can only make the most of today and look with hope toward tomorrow.” The class chose light blue and ivory as their colors, and an ivory rose tied with a light blue ribbon as their class flower. The baccalaureate service was held on May 20 with Charles Peterson officiating. The mixed chorus sang “Closing Prayer”, and soloist, Marcia Van Camp, sang “Friends.” At commencement, Robbie Heiman gave the salutatory address, and Paula Evanson and Melanie Ronning were co-valedictorians. Four seniors also gave speeches, as the class chose not to have a guest speaker. Graduation was made even more special when slides were shown during the senior song “Times of Your Life.” The 25 class members received their diplomas and departed in awe of actually being alumni. MAXWELL SMART OUTSMARTS KAOS 1984 was the year Maxwell Smart arrived in Alcester! AHS students, under the direction of Larry Vissia, pooled their talents to present the all-school play, “Get Smart”. The play had a fast paced plot revolving around the clumsy antics of Maxwell Smart, played by Robbie Heiman. Smart was called upon by the organization of good, called Control, to save the world from KAOS, the organization of evil. KAOS was scheming to blow up Washington, D.C. with professor Dante’s inthermo. Needless to say, Smart came through again and saved the world from evil. The students time and talent combined to make this year's play a fun experience for everyone involved and a big success at AHS. Above - Professor Dante tries to explain the inthermo to Smart.
