National Honor Society Sells Candy The National Honor Society is composed of Juniors and Seniors that have maintained at least a B average during their four years of high school. Their main purpose is to raise money to give scholarships to three of the graduating seniors. The NHS sold candy to raise money this year. Lisa Kleinhans recieved a hundred dollar scholarship for selling the most candy. The other three seniors recieving a scholarship each were, Shane McClaro, Pam Tucker and Pat Hammitt. Student Council Improves School Under the guidance of Keith Lapour as President and the oth- er officers, the Student Council was involved in many projects. With the cooperation of the members, the officers and Mr. Joachim, the advisor, they se- lected themes for Sweetheart and Homecoming as well as set up the Homecoming week com- petitions. At that tournament Kathryn Treiber and Rob Heiman recieved an excellent on their duet memorization speech. Mary Hen- dricks, serious interpretation of dra- ma, Ross Abraham, humorous, and Johnette Banks, oratory; also each re- ceived an Excellent. Amy Sundstrom received a superior rating for poetry and went on to Regional Competition in Sioux Falls. 22

Future Farmers Of America Improve Community Again this year the members of the FFA sold fruit to raise money. This mon- ey was used to send three students, Keith Lapour, Robbie Heiman, and Erik John- son to the National Convention in Kansas City. They also used their money on sev- eral projects like the City clean up day. They built benches for the community businesses who purchased the materials and carved the names of each business in the back of the bench.
