The Alcester Band was kept really busy this year playing in concerts, by holding a raffle for a trip to Omaha in June, and marching at USD and DSC and our own Homecoming. Many band students also participated in the Instrumental Contest held in Vermillion. The Wood- wind Choir, Flute Trio, Clari- net Choir, Clarinet Duet, and soloists Karen Swanson and Joanne Lind all received supe- rior ratings on their selections. Other groups participating in the contest were the Brass Choir, Percussion Ensemble, and soloists Rhonda Hakl and Mark Doty. In the fall. Matt Onnen, Chon Bern, Leisa John- son, Joan Hendricks, and Joanne Lind attended the Au- gustana Band Festival. Chon Bern also tried out for All-State Band. Many sing- ers also attended the Vocal Contest held in Ver- million. The Mixed Ensemble, Girl’s Ensemble, soloists Leisa Johnson, Landra Allen, Paula Evan- son, Matt Onnen, James Newberg, Jon Leafstedt, and the Swing Choir all received superior ratings at contest. The Swing Choir also participated in the Coyote Jazz Festival, and held a Stage Band- Swing Choir concert.
