Band Has Active Year The AHS Band began the year with a concert and a marching performance at Homecoming. The year continued with the band marching at various college Homecomings. This year the band marched at Vermillion, Brookings, Madison, and Orange City. They also marched in Orange City at the Tulip Festival. After marching was over, the band began practicing pep music. FFA Add To Fairgrounds The FFA had its annual fruit sales, which was very successful and brought in a lot of needed funds for the year's activities and projects. Led by Jeff Hall, President, and the seniors, the FFA had a good year. The project for the year was constructing a stage for the fair- grounds. Three members attended the Nation- al Convention in Kansas City. These were Mike Lappegard, Jeff Hall, and Kent Anderson. Fifteen members went to the State Convention in Brookings. The judging teams did a good job up there. Then the annual banquet was held. Kent Anderson was Star Greenhand, Jeff Hall Star Farmer; Keith Anderson won Beef and Diversified Livestock Award; Paul Twedt won the Swine and Participation Awards, and John Bergdale won the Crops Award and the Funk's seed corn award. From Concerts To Contest The band also gave three more concerts which were Christmas, Spring, and Pops Concerts. The instrumental department took many people to Contest in Vermillion this year. They rated 1 superior, 6 excellents. and 1 average. In March the band took a day off to travel to Elk Point and Wakonda to perform for the students there. The band had a good full year this year, and we hope they keep ft up next
