Two Make All-State Moonride was one of the new pieces of music the band played this year. It was a change from the old style music, since Moonride” is a song with electronic background music on tape. The Alcester High School band has 48 members, who, under the direction of Mrs. Hedeen, have traveled to Brookings and Vermillion to march in the Hobo Day and Dakota Days parades. Band members also took part in perform- ing in a Christmas concert on December 10, Spring Concert on April 19, and the Pops Concert on May 10. Throughout the year the band worked on pep music and formed a pep band that played at all of Alcester's home football and basketball games. This year at the small group instrumental contest those receiving superior ratings were soloists Rhonda Kleinhans, Joni Eilers and Tim Johnson. The Wood- wind Choir also received a superior rating. On January 11 Tim Johnson, Sharon Danielson, Rhonda Kleinhans and Joni Eilers auditioned for the 1974 All-State Band. This year Rhonda Kleinhans and Tim Johnson were chosen to play in the 140 mem- ber band.
