Three Superior Ratings Received at Contest The Region I small group vocal and piano contest was held February 14 at Vermillion. The girls ensemble, Rhonda Kleinhans (mezzo soprano solo), and Lorrie Wetrosky (alto solo) all received superior ratings. Groups receiving above average ratings were: Miscellaneous girls en- semble, Doyle Barnes and Mitch Kjose (baritone Solos), Bryan Eden (bass solos), Curtis Hebert (tenor solo), Mary Jo Ronning (soprano solo), and swing choirs. Miss Uttecht was the director. Nancy Kraakmo and Rhonda Kleinhans both received above average ratings on their piano solos. A winter concert was held in December. A Christmas concert with all the music groups in grade school and high school participating was also held in December. Many of the songs that were performed were taken from the book Sunshine and Snowflakes.” On April 19 a spring concert was performed. The final event for the vocal music groups was the Pops concert held on May 10. Triple Trio: 1st Row-Lisa Sogn, Mary Jo Ronning, Kay Hendricks, and Rhonda Kleinhans. 2nd Row-Jane Eilers, Lorrie Wetrosky, Charmain Hagen, Vicky Thormodsgaad, and Brenda Crawford. All-State Chorus-Mary Jo Ronning, Curtis Hebert, Bryan Eden, and Rhonda Kleinhans. Accompanists-Brenda Crawford, Rhonda Kleinhans, Joni Eilers, Nancy Kraakmo, and Sue Bergdale.

t The Dekalb Award was presented to Tim Winquist. Declam winners-Mrs. Goldammer-advisor; Linda Rogness, Becky Cooper, Cindy Anderson, and Randy Medema. Randy Medema Qualifies for Regional Declam Contest At various times, before or after school or during study halls, many students could be found practicing their declam pieces. On October 18, the local declam contest was judged by judges from Augustana College. The four local winners were: Becky Cooper- oratory, Linda Rogness-poetry, Cindy Anderson-humorous, and Randy Medema-dramatic. The district contest was held in Canton, South Dakota on Octo- ber 26. Becky Cooper, Linda Rogness, and Cindy Anderson re- ceived good ratings and Randy Medema received an excellent rating. Randy then went on to the regional contest in Sioux Falls on November 5 and received another excellent rating. 19
