librarians Heep Rci al References As head librarian, Mardelle Ekren records new books and arranges them on shelves and in the card files. She also assigns library duties. Once each year a thorough checking must be made to see that all books are properly filed and in the library. This work is the duty of the head li- brarian and her assistant who this year is Elaine Evjen. Miss Myrand serves as library advisor. She is shown at upper left with Mardelle. Each librarian is on duty one period a day, during that time check- ing out books and magazines, dusting shelves and assisting students in finding reference material and books. They are pictured at left correcting and typing copies in preparation for print- ing. They also assign stories to the reportial staff members, proof-read and prepare the dummy copy for each edition. At lower left they are assisting printer Harrison Heath in making up the chase. School activities, classwork, and parties are re- ported by the members of the Dakota editorial staff. The Dakota is published each month. Each member is assigned a certain story on which to report. All stories written are proof read by the editors. Depart- ments of the Dakota include the general news con- cerning school activities, the feature columns, and the sports section. Club reporters are appointed to provide informa- tion on what occurs in the various organizations such as chorus, band, and PTA. Continual reports are also made of classwork activities. 28
