“SEC0lN D GRADE We started our tr1p through second grade on a tram with 19 members and Mxss Clark as the engrneer Tommy Moore and Roger Watgms contlnued thexr journey on another tram Lrnda Wrlght and Allce Ockenfxls soon boarded the train .lanet Klopp was a regular passenger every day On the way we took tlme for a Chnstmas program, Halloween party Valentme party and all of our brrthday partles At Halloween we drscovered how much we enjoyed marshmallows burned rn flour We gave a program to some fellow passengers, who were making a Slmllal' tnp but gomgto different destlnatlons. A shadow play of The Rabbit Who Wrshed for Wings was acted out Kathleen Hmdman read for us A play called The Old Woman s New Hat was enacted with Karen Kxrk, jean Frshel, and Mary Batchelder taklng the leadlng parts On the tr1p we have met and learned about many people We have vrsxted wrth lndrans and have learned about therr customs habrts, clotlung and slgns Our journey also took us to the Dutch Eskxmos, and the jungle We enjoyed our trlp and reached our destlnatron ln May FIRST GRADE School started ln the fall for 34 happy fxrst graders There were 15 gxrls and 19 boys Gary Peter entered the followmg week, brxngmg the enrollment to 35 puplls the total statronary enrollment for the year Joyce Hoover and Tommy Tedar moved and Donna Sue Mollenhauer and Le Roy Ockenflls fllled thelr vacancxes Nature study held much of the mterest of the hrst graders Thenr studxes rncluded insects, plants, seeds, weather, and seasons They also enjoyed domg then' socral study projects Some of the projects were the clrcus, lndlan lxfe as portrayed ln the poem Hzawatha cowboy llfe and the comparison of life on the farm with llfe rn the clty They have had a Halloween party, Chrxstmas party Valentrne party and have, also, taken part 1n the Chrrstmas KINDERGARTEN NEWS program thrs year The kxndergarten chrldren arrrved at school on January 14 to begrn thelr f1rst semester of school They were very happy wlth therr newly decorated room wlth rose-colored walls and green furmture Soon after school began, everyone became famrllar wlth the many actlvltles avallable rn hrs room Everyone en joyed the puzzles, lxbrary books Kmder Clty clay, fmger palntlng and palntlng at the easel The second week of school Hussell Hendryx announced that lt was his blrthday Ths called for a celebratlon covered wrth brown paper, and streamers of plnk and green crepe paper were added The back of the chair displayed a large whlte paper birthday cake with srx candles Each trme someone has a birthday thls pupll rs named Birth day Child' for that day February 13 was Valentlne s Day at school for kindergarten Everyone enjoyed glvxng and recelvxng valentlnes Doll Day was another enjoyable occasion for the kmdergarten youngsters Thrs was a day chosen by the children, for brlngmg dolls and Teddy bears Some of the boys who dldn t have dolls to bring brought favorlte games books Everyone enjoyed that day m May when all of us boarded a school bus and journeyed off to spend a day at Mrs Kowalsky s farm returnxng to the school ln the afternoon ln tlme to rlde home on the bus IIALLGWEEN PARTY Halloween was the f1.rst festrve tlme of the year for the grades Every grade planned and prepared for a party of games and stunts ln thelr own room Before the lIldlVldll8l partles the boys and glrls, dressed ln costume, paraded through the bulldlng The sxxth grade started the parade and, as they passed through the rooms, each grade jolned the processlon untxl the parade was slx grades long Then they marched through the hrgh school rooms around the school ground and frnally returned to thelr rooms for the vanous partres CHRISTMA9 PAGEANT The Chrrstmas pageant xs fast becommg a tradltxon ln our communxty At Chrrstmas tlme, 1952, the grades unrted full strength to make the season a happy one for everyone Thxs event featunng 148 cluldren, was under the drrec tron of the grade teachers headed by Mrss Leona Clark The program was drvxded xnto three drstmct parts The Chrrstmas Splrlt and her falnes rergned over the entrre productron Frrst, they showed a typxcal Amencan Chrrstmas, wrth danclng snowflakes and Santa Claus Santa brought hrs toys ln a real slelgh pulled by elght pranctng remdeers, lead by Rudolph, the red nosed remdeer The spntely fames waved thetr wands, as Santa's toys came to lrfe, danced, and sang Second, a shrp came mto the harbor, frlled with chrldren from forergn lands, who depleted thelr Chnstmas customs, songs, and dances England, France, Spam, Mexrco Sweden, and Holland were ably represented Fxnally, the first Chnstmas was shown The most lmpressrve portrayal was the Natrvrty Scelle All of the chrldren were rn an attrtude of reverence and prayer, whrle the solo Srlent Nrghtn was sung Y , . . , . . .
