PIRATES 1519 G5 FIRST ROW L Cameron K Blrn R Aller J McGowan E Jones D Nretert R Wagner SECOND ROW E Paul Manager L Martxn E Paul Mr Lash D Wassmer W Wassmer L Martrn P Jones Ass t Manager In October of 1952 when the Pirates lard down therr baseball bats and prcked up the basket balls they had lost srx letterrnen from the last year Under the coachrng power of Mr Lash the Prrates got off to a fast start takrng two vlctones from thelr frrst two opponents Coggon and Vlola But they were slowed down by losrng three of therr next four games After wrnmng frfty per cent of their frrst sur games, the squad had a frve game wrnnrng streak They took vrctones from Walker Palo Coggon and Toddvrlle at Alburnett and they downed Central Cnty on the1r oppo- nents home floor The Plrates wrnnrng streak came to an end when they returned from Palo wlth a defeat and met Center Pornt only to be beaten for the fifth time rn the season After playrng thirteen scheduled games the Prrates entered County Tournament competrtron at Mt Vernon where they were beaten by Walker rn first round play Followrng the County Tournament the Prrates journeyed to Morley for the last scheduled game of the season returnrng vlctorlous On February 16, the team entered the Sectlonal Tournament at Marlon and were agarn defeated rn frrst round play Thrs trme Toddvllle edged out the Plrates rn a trght game defeating Albnrnett by a one pornt margrn Losrng ln the Sectronal Tournament brought the season to a close Although the Pu-ates drd relatively well throughout the season with a record of 11 wins and 7 losses, as always they would llke to play a few games over. 5 1 me Q A -QCII v , X 5 Wx li. 4 l l T , Q A LX Q:- 7 ,V V: T -f.
