SENIIIB CLASS llIS'l'0llY lf a pxrate were to fxnd the dnary of the class of '53 h would md pages yellow wxth thirteen years of age frlled with many adventures of fun hard work and some drsappomt ments As he scanned through the pages he mrght read 1940 1941 Dear Dmry We started to the Albumett School on September 2 1940 There were nme of us and we were all very happy dlat school days had frnally he n for us W Lors Andrew Doren Bextz Betty Gessner Lora Jones Larry Martm Manlyn Rech Davrd Wassmer Marlene Sherman and Ray Wagner obedxently learned our ABC s and numbers Lora Jones left dunng the latter part of thxs penod Mnss Setchell was our teacher tdl:e frrst semester and Mxss Janette Cummxngs completed e year 1941 1942 Dear Dlary Miss Cummings greeted us agam when school started m the fall Larry Martm was not wuh our class although we enlar ed with fxve new kids Donna Cuon Betty Youn Garth err Betty Lou Walz and Betty Holland Manlyn ech and Donna Coon moved m mrd year We were very good th1s year Just once tn a whxle one of us went to the offrce for a httle sessron 1942 1943 Dear Drary The second grade year started wxth ten Venluresome boys and gtrls mcludmg two new xrls Dons Halstead and Charlene ashbum Betty Lou alz departed soon after school started. The vacancy left by her was soon fxlled hy Joyce Ann Fedderson who reglstered nn the second semester Our teacher Miss Paulme Varce ruled over all wxth the sharp slap of a ruler Maybe tt was because she had to 1943 1944 Dear Dlary When we started the thrrd grade wxth three years of school behrnd us we thought we were growxng smarter every day We were taught thrs year un der the watchful eye of Mrs Dorothy Kee whom everyone lnked very much After Charlene Washburn and Joyce Fedder- son deserted us dunng the second semester our class was narrowed to seven borsterous students who completed the the year 1944 1945 Dear Drary Ray Wagner and Doren Bextz grew ttred of us and remamed nn the thxrd grade but there were mnc fourth graders to greet four new pupils Robert Watson Goldene Holland Paul Shaffer and Dxck Nerlson Goldene didn t stay wrth us very long she left along with Garth Werr and Betty Young durmg the second semester books for the servxce men m the hospltals Mrs Kee was our teacher When she had to leave Mrs Merle Tntle took her p ace 1945 1946 Dell' DIGIT Mxss Carole Cook was our fnftb grade mstructor She was very much mterested nn handr craft and we had a lot of fun makmg vanous artrcles of cre e paper We were mdeed proud and honored to have Lots An rew our classmate as queen of the camrval Three new uprls Manlyn Noska Rosemary Barton and Charles afler started wxth us tn the fall Rosemary stayed only one semester Charles was retanned rn the fourth grade Dons Halstead also demrtted 1946 1947 Dear Dxary Thxs was the year the Albumett school reconsolldated and seven new puprls Gale Fues sley Phyllrs Heefner Duck Hrte Glenna Platner George Lafler Larry Martm and Dons Halstead regxstered nn our class Larry and Dons were wrth us for the second trme. All these newcomers enlarged our class to fourteen qunte grown up students Peter Burcombe gomed our class later Our attractxve young teacher Mxss Charlotte Wrlson taught us our daxly lessons and also curtalled a lot of our bad speech habxts Thrs year we boys began tumxng our heads toward the grrls and vxce versa Each of us had hrs own mdxvldual way of schemxng for the hearts of the opposxte sex by note wntxng coy glances and helpmg each other wxtb our studxes We were Just becommg well acquainted wxth Duck Hlte when he abandoned us early rn the frrst semester 1947 1948- Dear Drary New expenences confronted us ln the seventh grade We had a man teacher Mr Kenneth Brewer We gxrls tackled home economxcs we boys tackled manual arts all of us took Englxsh under the supervrsron of the hxgh school teachers Mr and Mrs Renaud At every opportumty we were out of doors We dxdn t have recess but we had a P T perxod every aftemoon The gxrls jumped rope even though they were supposed to be very grown up Dozens of crazy snapshots were taken of us all year long by photographer and classmate Davrd Wassmer' 1948 1949 Dear Drary Lots of thxngs happened dns ear We have really become more md endent each year hyllxs and Roberta worked rn the of rce for Mr Lang gammg valuable busrness tzraunng We topped the l1st ID the ma anne campaxgn Qtr reward was a party on school txme qfhere was lrttle change nn our class roll Glenna Plamer omed us for the second tnme Kenneth Peterson was wr us art of the year but left dunng the second semester T e hrgh school had flunk day so we took one loo Thus got us mto a peck of trouble but thmgs soon troned out. We gnrls along wxth the seventh grade grrls really took thmgs rnto our own hands when we weren t al lowed to go lb Central Cnty to watch the Junior hr h boys play basketball We sknpped school and spent the a ternoon m our teacher s Mrs Ralph Wn ht s barn It was cold and damp but we were determrned mally we were persuaded to come down and face the muslc nth grade school ln the past we wart for next September and high school days 1949-1950- Dear Drary Havrn passed one xmportant oal nn lnfe we started a second en boys and grrls Lots ndrew Peter Burcombe Dons Halstead Grace Hawley Phyllls Heefner Roberta Hate, Larry Martm Manlyn Noska Paul Shaffer and Davxd Wassmer started then freshmen year of hzgh school Glenna Platner and Geor e Lafler dxd not retum thrs year but Mary Ernest reported e second semes ter A new hugh school facult Mr Beall Mr Bohr and Mr and Mrs Martm greeted us oon we were smothered under school classes and actxvrtnes Our bxggest freshman event was rnxtlatxon which made us a real part of A H S Phyllxs was a flrst stung cheerleader and the rest of us partrcxpated rn dzfferent sport actrvrtres Our class offrcers were Roberta presrdent Larry, vnce president Dons secretary Peter treasurer Mr Martm class sponsor 1950-1951 Dear Dxary Hrgh school newness had wom off when school started m the fall and we sarled smoothly through the sophomore year Barbara White and Jack Haw baker entered class the fxrst of the year but soon left along wxth Mary Ernest Our class offxcers were Lots Andrew presrdent Phyllrs vrce presxdent Roberta secretary Davrd treasurer Mr Martm class sponsor We were proud of Roberta who made the fastest typxng record ln A H S hnstory thxs year Phylhs was our carmval queen and also a cheerleader Larry and Peter played flrst team baseball whrle Roberta made good as guard on the basketball court Our sophomore yearwas most satisfactory for all of us 1951 1952 Dear Drary UPPER CLASSMEN' The pnze possessrons our class nngs which we ordered last sprxng amved the frrst day of school Peter Burcombe moved to Calxfomra dunng the summer but the vacancy left by htm was soon fxlled by a new student Joe Funk Our play Act slnp of Miss Leona Clark was a pleasing success Soon after our production Grace Hawley left to marry her one and only After Chnstmas Manlyn Noska also took leave to brave the perrls of the bxg crty Class offxcers were Roberta presl dent Dons vrce presxdent Davrd sec treasurer Mr Bohr class sponsor We du dee ly rnto bookkeepxn Amencan government biology nglls and shorthand under the high school teachers Mr Lash Mrs Beardsley and Mrs Culver Our athletxc record was something to be roud of with all of the boys goxng out for baseball and asketball Roberta playxng on the uls basketball team Dons and Phyllrs cheerleadmg an Lots doxng her part acting as the girls basketball manager Doris was the camxval queen thxa year We had a lot of fun planmng and presenting the rumor semor banquet for the senrors As their graduatnon day grew near, we made decoratxons and assnsted xn gnvmg them a fond and memorable farewell whrle we patrently warted for the day we would be semors 1952 1953 Dear Daary We were erght ha py seniors Lo1s Andrew Dons Halstead Ph ll1s Heefner oberta Hate Joe Fmk Larry Martm Davrd assmer, and Paul Shaffer when school started on August 25 only to be saddened hy the sudden departure of oe Fink durxng the fxrst srx weeks makmg our class the xg Seven Acttvxtles started early as Roberta edxtor of the Tattler and Lors edxtor of the Prrateer started the hall rollrng on the school publxcatxons The rest of us helped them on therr staffs Our class offlcers were Phyllns president Dons, vrce resxdent Loxs sec treasurer Mr Bohr class s onsor s last year we were agam well represented rn at letrcs Larr and Davrd played baseball and basketball Roberta and ons were on the glrls basketball team It was a great surpnse to all of us when Roberta was secretly manned durmg Chnstmas vaca txon Before we had an opportunrty to congratulate her she had moved to her new home nn Texas The teachers who gave us our flmshxng touches were Mr Bohr Mr Lash Mrs Wrllrams Mrs Culver andMr Vanderhoff Now that graduatron ns over the curtam closes for the last t1me on our hrgh school days As we write the last page m our dxary we know that we shall always chensh the memorial of excrttng adventures happy tnmes and hard work at A H S . . . e , , . . . , . . , .' , , . - ' y . . . - . .
