PRlNClPAL'S MESSAG At no time in the history of the world, has a minority group been given the educational opportunities, now available to American Indian Youth. Tribal and family interest, scholarships and other grants, tribal and govermnent loans, make it possible for the Indian student to enroll in schools of vocational specialization, or of higher learning. Are You interested? lfyou are not, you should be! Opportunity opens the door to a fine future. Will You enter? Entering should mean you are willing to accept the respon- sibilities involved. what are these responsibilities? 1. To study in order to be successful in your scholastic endeavors. 2. To meet your fellow-man with head high upon a basis of equal and effective citizenship. 3. To offer leadership, as you attain knowledge and skills, to your family. your tribal group, and your country. TO THE CLASS OF I959 We are living in an age of fear and change and struggle be- tween forces scarcely understood. The ledger must be balanced by education, the desire and ability to understand others and their goals, the ability to communicate with those of other races, nationalities, and religious faiths. Responsibility rests heavily upon all of us. but it is a challenge, not a fixed barrier. It is our hope and belief that you have gained the courage, ability, and optimism to meet this challenge. Cooperation is called for but that can be no better than the readiness of the individual who is to take part. Our continued interest, confidence, and best wishes go with you. V.L. Beggs Agency Director of Schools
