Foreword
ln years to come you probably will, in some
reminiscent mood, recall the glorious days of
your school life. The good old days, you
might put it. Remember when we used to
walk, talk, and study together and how our
classes, dances, games, assemblies used to af-
fect us? Yes, whether you are sophomore,
junior, or senior in this book, we will attempt
to brighten a few of your treasured memories
which have been dimmed by the passage of
time.

ill Here are some more fellows with an impressive record. Though
they did not quite make the First team, they did well for themselves
by rising almost to the top this year. No doubt many of these boys
will be in there next year, risking life and limb, on the Bulldog
squad. Here's wishing you good luck!!

ill The above group of fellows didn't quite make the top-notch team.
But they still did all right by themselves. They came almost to the
top from a group of maybe three hundred aspirants. They played
in several preliminary games here and in several games of their
own. They came out with a pretty good record. Some of these
may be on next year's Bulldog squad. Till then, adiosl

Coaches . . .
Ill ln the above picture are, from left to right, Coaches Charles Renfro,
Gustave Zielasko, Robert Briscoe, R. R. Mock, and Joseph Fer-
guson. These men have undertaken to keep the boys of A. H. S.
physically ancl morally straight. Coaches Renfro and Wilson fnot
pictureclj are in charge of gym classes, football, and basketball.
Coach Wilson is also in charge of baseball: Renfro of track.
Ill Two new coaches in the faculty are Ferguson for football, and Zie-
lasko for track.
ill Last, but not least, are Coaches Briscoe and Mock. They are in
charge of intramurals. This phase in sports is important, if not es-
sential, in the lives of the clubs. There is always interscholastic
rivalry in our school.

Bulldogs . .
ill These fellows were the Bulldog basketball team for the school year
for 1940- l 94 l. At the first of the season, everything went against
them, except they obtained the needed practical experience for
later application. This knowledge was useful to them in-so-far as
they later won the district tournament. However, in the state
tournament they unfortunately went under to Las Cruces in the
second round. Nevertheless, it was a swell season, fellasl!

What a dog's life it is. Work, work, we do all the work, is the
tale of woe of a manager. Of all the mean jobs, that's one. A
manager sure earnsfhis letter, taking care of this and that equip-

players, wrapping cuts, etc., etc. That's all in the day's work,
though.
The managers were Ewing and johnson for track, Clemens for bas-

The Cantata .
With the singers arrayed in their usual wine-colored cassocks and
white surplices and stationed before the large church window, the
annual Christmas cantata, The Shepherds' Christmas, by Morton
G. Luvass, was presented in the high school auditorium, December
eighteenth and nineteenth.
The theme was carried out beautifully with several solos sung, and
the numbers of the A Capella Choir added to it in their organ-like
qualities. The stage, with its many-lighted trees, glittering red
cellophane balls, the clever tableaus, lent to the general atmosphere.
When the last notes of the mighty Hallelujah Chorus sounded,
the audience left with regret but carried with them the true spirit
of Christmas.
Under the excellent guidance of Miss Virginia McManus, this year's
Cantata proved to be one of the finest Christmas presentations in
the history of the school.

The OpereH'a . . .
Under the direction of Miss Virginia McManus, the high school
music department presented on March twentieth and twenty-first
in the high school auditorium Joan of the Nancy Lee, a comic
operetta by Louis Woodson Curtis.
Taking the leads were Doris White as Lady Joan Leyton, and Bill
Morrow as Cap'n Dick, ,loan's old sweetheart and the captain of
the pirate ship on which Joan and her bridesmaids were taken pris-
oners. Marguerite Boyle very convincingly played the part of the
highly excitable Dona. Bill Bloody, played by Bill Shaw, was the
pirate out to get control of the ship, but was finally won over by
the Mistress Rhoda Greensarl, played by Dorothy Tireman. Stut-
tering Steve, played by Howard Shockey, got many laughs in his
pursuit of Henrietta, played by Jane Johnston. Dorinda and
Florinda, played by Betty Gassaway and Virginia Lackey, were the
twins whom Barnaby Hyde, played by Marvin Romme, and Jerry
Leyton, played by Bill Martin, were always getting mixed up. The
chorus of pirates and bridesmaids made a colorful background and
provided an excellent musical score.

QI Gee whiz, its a big school. Boy,
I was dwarfed into obscurity. Not only
the size dwarfed me but when you speak
to a junior or senior and they just walk
off and leave you out on a limb, it's
embarrassing and even provoking. l
didn't know that one could be so ig-
nored by another just because of class
distinctions. W i t h discouragements
like this one feels that one should live
en'irely within one's own class. l feel
that it is the wrong philosophy and
should be avoided.
ill This year from our class we chose
three people as our executive repre-
sentatives. They are Jerry Gatewoocl,
presiclentg Georgianna Chval, vice-
president: Lou jaramillo, secretary-
Lreasurer. They have done a good job
and l, for one, am grateful. Until
next year-
Adios!

President
James McGee . . .
Vice-President
Martha White . . .
Secretary-Treasurer
ill In our first class activity, election
of officers, we chose Jack Redman
president: james McGee vice-presi-
dent: and Martha White secretary-
treasurer. The annual junior play,
Footloose, threw the spotlight on
some very good actors and actresses.
The junior-Senior Prom promises to
be one of the best ever staged at Al-l.S.
Ill On the athletic fields the Junior
Class helped to bring glory to our
Alma Mater. With such a record we
will be Seniors to be wondered at.
Watch outl Here we come!
