About one hundred men report for football practlce at
Albuquerque Hugh School much too large a number for one

Every Bullpup IS gnven a uniform and a chance to learn foot

GIRLS SOCCER
The gnrls started thelr season off thls year wlth soccer
Thelr games proved to be very mterestmg Soccer seems to be
the roughest of all glrls sports It could well be compared Wlth
boys football After some of the games many of the g1rls were
een llmpmg around because of the IIIJUYICS they recelved
ln the games Yet all of them seem to put thelr heart and
oul 1nto the game and the more they are locked and knocked
the be ter they llke It
lt appears that we have two very good teams ln our glrls
gym classes the fourth and slxth perlod Although these two
teams trled twlce for the champlonshlp nelther could score
agamst the other Every glrl on both teams co operated wxth
the rest of her squad and each d1d her very best to mal-ze the
wmnlng po1n s but nel her s1de gamed a score

lt IS found that baseball rs not as enthusxastlc a game as some
of our other gurls sports however at IS played both semesters
Those makmg the flrst team recenve l00 polnts toward thenr

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball xs one of our most enthuslastlc glrls sports
It IS especlally llked because everyone can play the game at
one time there IS no waltmg to get on the floor as there IS ln
many of our sports Many of the glrls at the opening of the
season failed to have the power to strike the ball hard enough
so that xt would clear the net but later they developed the
technique of playlng through thexr lnterest IH the game We
probably recelve more of an audlence for volleyball tourna
ments than for any other sport A plcked group of players
partlcnpated agalnst the UHIVCYSIKY gurls volleyball team and
won to the team two straxght games All of the glrls who are
Interested ln this sport are anxious for our new gym to be
completed so that they mxght have a better place for thelr
athletics The new gym wlll afford more room for such athletlcs
as volleyball basketball and many other sports which are
played mdoors The mterclass volleyball tournament was won
by the fourth period class they defeated the seventh period
class whlch IS plcturecl above

The basketball tournaments this year aroused the mterest
of the whole school The gnrls seemed to have much more mter
e t for the game and they really worked hard to get their
posmons on the teams They practnced all they were allowed
so that thelr team might wm the mterclass tournament Thls
year the tournament was won by the seventh penod class
and It was well earned The gurls had thelr hearts set on the
victory and thelr mmcls could not be changed
Thls year a new tournament was organized The Grrls
Clubs or any classes were asked to make up a team to
enter 1n a tournament whnch would be for any team who
wished to enter lt Thls proved to be very successful and the
gnrls had a great deal of fun out of lt There were such teams
as the Indian GIYIS G A A Girl Reserve Art Club Phyllis

was won by the G A A
